The Israel Defense Forces has begun an investigation into a recent trip taken by Rabbi Shlomo Aviner to Syrian territory earlier this week.
According to a report published Monday by Arutz Sheva, Rabbi Aviner, joined by his aide Rabbi Mordechai Tzion and several IDF reservists from the Military Rabbinate, traveled to Tel Kudna, a location situated on the Syrian side of the border. The IDF clarified that while the excursion had received clearance from some military personnel, it was not authorized by individuals with the proper authority to grant such permission.
The area visited lies within the Golan Heights, a region administered by Israel, but in close proximity to the Syrian frontier.

Three kedoshei elyon had one common concept when it came to learning Torah – they were the Ohr Hachaim Hakadosh (Rabbi Chaim ibn Attar 1696-1743) when he came to Eretz Yisroel; the Ramchal (Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto 1707-1746) when he lived in Padua, Italy;  and Hagaon, Harav Chaim Volozhiner, (1749-1821) the famous talmid of the Gaon of Vilna. They each had a yeshiva with ‘around-the-clock’ Torah learning, 24-hours a day, so that there would be no minute when the sound of Torah learning would not be heard in this world. The 24-hour period would be divided into shifts, and as one ended the next would begin. Torah-24 A “Torah-24” Center has been opened in Yerushalayim and the Nasi is Maran Sar Hatorah, Harav Chaim Kanievsky, zt”l.

In the last two days, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy dedicated a new Holocaust and Genocide Research Center at a high school in his state and announced that he intends to join this year’s International March of the Living in Poland, describing both as “pretty solemn but pretty special” events “bound by history.”
The governor, a Democrat, told JNS on Tuesday that both trips were not responses to “the unspeakable level of antisemitism” that followed the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023 attacks in southern Israel but acknowledged that they certainly could focus attention on the issue.

A trio of elections on Tuesday provided early warning signs to Republicans and President Donald Trump at the beginning of an ambitious term, as Democrats rallied against his efforts to slash the federal government and the outsize role being played by billionaire Elon Musk. In the marquee race for a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat, the conservative judge endorsed by Trump and backed by Musk and his groups to the tune of $21 million lost by a significant margin in a state Trump won in November. And while Florida Republicans held two of the most pro-Trump House districts in the country, both candidates also underperformed Trump’s November margins.

Violent crime in New York City has seen a steep decline in the opening months of 2025, coinciding with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch’s decisive and reform-focused leadership.
After assuming control of the department late last year, Tisch quickly removed several senior officials accused of misconduct and rolled out sweeping reforms aimed at enhancing public safety and addressing quality-of-life concerns across the five boroughs.
As the first three months of the year wrapped up, newly finalized crime statistics shared exclusively with The Post offered a clear view of the impact of those reforms.
The number of murders dropped significantly, with 63 recorded killings this quarter compared to 96 in the same stretch of 2024 — a dramatic 35% reduction, sources said.

The White House got into the April Fools’ Day spirit by pulling a prank on reporters stationed in the press briefing room.
Just after 6 p.m. Eastern, Assistant Press Secretary Taylor Rogers made an announcement over the intercom, catching journalists off guard with unexpected news: the evening was apparently going to run long.
“You have a dinner lid until 8:47,” Rogers said, according to a video posted online by a fellow staffer. “Enjoy your dinner.”
Not long after, Rogers returned to the microphone to reveal the joke.
“Happy April Fools!” she said, as laughter broke out among those gathered in the room.
“Enjoy your evening and Happy Liberation Day eve,” she added, alluding to President Trump’s looming April 2 tariff deadline.

JERUSALEM (JNS) – Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Wednesday, just days before the start of Passover.

U.S. District Judge Dale E. Ho dismissed the federal corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams on April 1, 2025, siding with the Trump administration’s Justice Department in a decision that has roiled the city’s political landscape. The ruling ends a months-long legal saga that saw Adams indicted on bribery and fraud charges, only for the case to unravel amid allegations of political interference and prosecutorial upheaval. The dismissal came after the Justice Department, under Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, moved in February to drop the five-count indictment, which accused Adams of accepting over $125,000 in illicit campaign funds and luxury perks from Turkish nationals aiming to sway his influence.

Former Biden administration Health Secretary Xavier Becerra on Wednesday became the latest Democrat to join the crowded field seeking to become California’s next governor, a contest that could be dramatically reshaped if former Vice President Kamala Harris becomes a candidate. The Stanford Law School graduate enters the race with a lengthy resume of government service, including stints as California attorney general, a U.S. House member and a state legislator. In December 2020, then-President-elect Joe Biden picked Becerra to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, putting a defender of the Affordable Care Act in a leading role to oversee his administration’s coronavirus response.

The Senate confirmed Matt Whitaker late Tuesday as President Donald Trump’s U.S. ambassador to NATO, a crucial emissary to the Western alliance at a time of growing concern about the American commitment abroad. Whitaker, who had served in Trump’s first administration at the Justice Department, brings a law enforcement background rather than deep foreign policy or national security ties. He was confirmed by the Senate on a vote of 52-45. During a confirmation hearing, Whitaker assured senators that the Trump administration’s commitment to the military alliance was “ironclad.” Trump has long been skeptical, and often hostile, toward the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which was formed by the U.S.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) revealed in a recent interview that he gave former Vice President Kamala Harris a candid warning before joining her presidential ticket.
“I said about 90 percent of the time, I can be really good, but about 10 percent of the time, I can be a train wreck because I’m speaking from the heart, like a teacher sitting in a teachers lounge or a laborer sitting at the break table,” Walz shared with New York magazine when asked about his role on the campaign trail with Harris.
Harris’s decision to choose Walz as her vice-presidential candidate elevated him to the forefront of national politics.
