A husband and wife walking in Monticello were both struck by a vehicle on Sunday night. It happened just before 9:00PM on Route 42 near “Ichud” in Monticello. Thanks to the amazing work of Catskills Hatzolah Paramedics, the life of a 50-year-old Sullivan County resident was saved. Sources tell YWN that the man suffered a heart attack while walking with his wife. Hatzolah Paramedics worked on the victim and were successful in restoring a regular heart rhythm. An inspiring photo recently went viral of a Chassidish bochur so immersed in learning Torah that he fails to even see a bear passing by. The incident occurred a week ago in the early hours of the morning. The bochur in the photo, a Belzer bochur named Yehoshua Gantzfried, was standing on the porch of the Belzer Beis Shimon yeshivah in the Catskills and learning with great hasmadah. Suddenly a black bear appeared on the grass in front of the porch and walked the full length of the yard but the bochur didn’t even notice it until it was already well past him.

Approximately two hours after being found by Rockland Chaveirim volunteers, the two missing special needs boys were removed by Catskills Hatzolah ATV’s and brought out to hundreds of volunteers singing and dancing. Bichasdei Hashem, both boys are in good condition, despite walking for around 15 hours in dangerous terrain, as well as two bouts of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The family tells YWN that are most grateful to all members of law enforcement, as well as all volunteers who worked tirelessly to find their beloved family members. The NY State Police, Forest rangers, as well as Ulster County Sheriff’s Department worked hand in hand.

A man was airlifted following a serious crash on Route 17 in Liberty, Wednesday afternoon. Sources tell YWN that the victim, a 49-year-old man, was the single occupant in a vehicle which overturned on Route 17 near Exit 100A. Catskills Hatzolah Paramedics found the victim outside of the vehicle when they arrived on the scene, which appears that he was ejected from the vehicle. A medevac was called, which landed on the highway, and airlifted the victim to Westchester Trauma Center. He suffered various injuries, including a head injury. The cause of the crash was unknown. A vacation in the serene Catskills turned into a harrowing ordeal for a Jewish woman when her vehicle collided with a pole on Rapp Road on Sunday afternoon. The accident, prompted a swift response from Catskill Hatzolah. The woman was airlifted via helicopter to Westchester Medical Center for immediate medical attention. She was in serious but stable condition. Four other passengers who were involved in the accident received immediate care from Hatzolah and were taken to Harris Hospital for further treatment. They are in stable condition. A name for Tehillim was not available. One person was killed in a serious crash on Route 52 near Caston Road, between Woodbourne and Ellenville early Sunday morning. The crash occured at around 4:00am and involved one vehicle which overturned. Catskills Hatzolah was on the scene in seconds, and were unable to reach the victim until the fire department extricated him from the vehicle. Hatzolah used their drone unit to search the area for a second vehicle or possible additional victims who may had been ejected from the vehicle. The drone has infrared technology and can spot anything with heat. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced DOA. It did not appear that Chevra Kaddisha services were needed in this tragic incident. The NY State Police were on the scene investigating.
