It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Dr. Seymour Lachman z”l, a pivotal figure in New York politics and one of the first frum Jews to enter the political world in the tri-state area. He was 91 years old.
Dr. Lachman was born in 1933 in Brooklyn’s Bensonhurst neighborhood to Louis and Sarah Lachman, Jewish immigrants who arrived in America between the two World Wars.

This year, Ponevezh Yeshiva held its traditional mesibas Chanukah at Armonot Chein Hall in Bnei Brak, marking the first time the event took place outside the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.
During the festive gathering, attended by thousands of talmidim, the central address was delivered by the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Berel Povarsky. In his drasha, he highlighted the dedication of the yeshiva’s staff, who invest significant effort into their talmidim, often staying late into the night.
The nosi of the Yeshiva, Rav Eliezer Kahaneman, honored the memory of his father-in-law, Rav Shlomke Berman, marking 20 years since his petirah. Rav Kahaneman invited his son, the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Chaim Peretz Berman, to speak l’illui nishmaso.

A member of the Lev Tahor cult, Jonathan Emanuel Cardona Castillo, was apprehended on December 31 in El Salvador. The Salvadoran authorities have officially begun the process of extraditing him to Guatemala, where he faces charges of abuse and other crimes committed against minors.
On December 27, Interpol issued an international red alert against Cardona at the request of Guatemala’s National Civil Police and the prosecution. Cardona is suspected of human trafficking, forced marriage, and abuse.
A member of the Lev Tahor cult, who spoke anonymously, stated that Cardona’s behavior had drastically changed since he joined the group. The source revealed that Cardona became violent and began threatening to kill children.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rebbetzin Devorah Bergman a”h. She was 97.
The Rebbetzin was recently hospitalized at Ma’ayanai HaYeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak, where her condition had worsened and she was sedated and on a ventilator. She passed away today.
The Rebbetzin was a daughter of Rav Elazar Menachem Man Shach, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh, and the wife of Rav Meir Tzvi Bergman, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Rashbi in Bneir Brak and senior member of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Degel Hatorah.

The Bnei Brak Municipality has been ordered to pay over $16,000 in compensation after a 26-year-old chareidi woman sued for discrimination when she was denied access to certain books at the city’s library because she was unmarried. In addition to the compensation, the court imposed an additional $5,400 in legal fees on the municipality.
