The virulently antisemitic and anti-Israel Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar won her Democratic party primary in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District on Tuesday, defeating her opponent Don Samuel and two other challengers. In her victory speech, Omar claimed that her black opponent Don Samuels, who is pro-Israel, worked with “literal Nazis” in order to defeat her.” Unfortunately, Omar did not follow in the paths of two of her fellow Squad members who lost their primaries – Reps. Jamaal Bowman in New York and Cori Bush of Missouri. AIPAC and other pro-Israel groups heavily aided the challengers of Bowman and Bush but the same support was not provided for Samuels as polls showed that Omar would be difficult to defeat.

An Israeli in his 60s who entered the Palestinian city of Qalqilya to fix his car on Monday evening was shot and seriously wounded by a terrorist. The gunfire also wounded two Palestinians who were near the Israeli man. All three were evacuated to a Palestinian hospital. After the Israeli was treated and stabilized, he was evacuated with the coordination of the IDF to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. His condition is serious but stable. IDF forces shot and killed the terrorist as he attempted to escape the scene. The terrorist was Tariq Daoud, an 18-year-old Hamas terrorist who was released as part of the ceasefire/hostage deal in November.

Iran rejected a call Tuesday by three European countries urging it to refrain from any retaliatory attacks that would further escalate regional tensions. Iran calls it an “excessive request.” The leaders of Britain, France and Germany in a joint statement Monday asked Iran and its allies to refrain from retaliation for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month. Iran has blamed Israel. The European leaders also endorsed the latest push by mediators from Qatar, Egypt and the United States to broker an agreement to end the Israel-Hamas war. Talks are expected to resume Thursday. And they called for the return of scores of hostages held by Hamas and the “unfettered” delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Amid fears in Israel of an impending Iranian-Hezbollah attack, thousands of Jews visited the Kosel on Tisha B’Av to mourn the Churban at the site of the Beis Hamikdash. The crowds began flocking to the site on Monday night, continuing into the wee hours of the night and continuing throughout the day on Tuesday. There was a surge of visitors on Tuesday evening ahead of the end of the fast as tefillos and a call for achdus Yisrael were held with the participation of Rabbanim, public figures, relatives of hostages and wounded IDF soldiers. The Rav of the Kosel, HaRav Shmuel Rabinowitz, began the tefillah by reciting Tehillim and Shema Yisrael and Ol Malchus Shamayim in light of the precarious situation of Am Yisrael.

A person close to YWN, who is a temendous Talmud Chochom with a large family has unfortunately been suffering from a slew of health problems the past few years. Despite this, he has kept his work schedule and provided for his family. Unfortunately, this man just suffered a very serious health issue and has been forced to give up much of his income, plunging his family into the unknown, as he is unable to make ends meet. This money is not going for any luxuries, but his (literally!) basic necessities to provide for his family. Please open your hearts and please make a donation to help this very Choshuva Yid who is suffering terribly. In this solemn day of Tisha B’Av, may Hashem see our acts of kindness and bring us Moshiach immediately. CLICK HERE TO MAKE A DONATION

White House spokesman John Kirby announced today that the United States shares Israel’s assessment that Iran may launch a significant attack against Israel this week. Kirby expressed concern over the potential Iranian aggression and revealed that the US has enhanced its regional military presence in preparation. The threatened Iranian retaliation follows the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month, for which Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility. Kirby emphasized the importance of all parties attending the upcoming Gaza hostage-ceasefire talks, scheduled to resume on August 15, stating, “Everyone needs to show up for talks on Thursday.” While Israel has confirmed its participation in the talks, Hamas has refused to attend.

Fox News has reported that U.S. officials are concerned Iran could strike Israel within the next 24 hours. YWN reported last week that western intelligence sources had suggested that Iran might be considering an attack on Tisha B’Av, the Jewish day of mourning for the destruction of the Holy Temples, which begins tonight and ends at sunset tomorrow. If an attack occurs within this timeframe, it would coincide with Tisha B’Av.’ FOX NEWS: “Regional sources told Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst on Monday that they are concerned Iran and its proxies could attack Israel within the next 24 hours in retaliation for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran late last month.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant spoke with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Sunday and told him that the Iranian military is preparing for a large-scale attack, Axios reported Sunday evening. According to the report, Israeli intelligence officials think that Hezbollah will attack first and Iran will then join in by launching its own attack. Sources told Axios that the Hezbollah and Iranian attacks are expected to be larger than the April 14 attack and include the firing of missiles and drones at military targets in the Tel Aviv area, including those near civilian areas.
