Early this morning the Muslim Public Affairs Council filed an amicus (friend of the court) brief with the Second Circuit in support of Agudah’s lawsuit challenging the executive order targeting our community. They explained that they “believe that the Islamic faith teaches Muslims to want for others what they want for themselves, and that supporting the Jewish community in this case is in the interest of the common good.” YWN can exclusively bring you the opening pages of their brief. “Since ancient times, peoples around the world have symbolically vested the perceived wrongdoings of their community onto “scapegoats,” who are sacrificed in the hope that those wrongdoings will be expiated, and the hard times will pass.

The fatal police shooting of a Black man allegedly armed with a knife in the western side of Philadelphia sparked violent protests overnight, with at least 30 officers reported injured early Tuesday – including one sergeant who was reportedly struck by a pick-up truck. Hundreds of people took to the streets to protest the Monday afternoon shooting of 27-year-old Walter Wallace Jr., calling it another example of police officers killing a Black man. Five firearms were recovered from those arrested, police said.

Overpowering Democratic opposition, Senate Republicans voted on Monday night to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court in a move that will make the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals judge and Notre Dame law professor the third appointment to the high court by President Trump, solidifying his administration’s legacy even further just a week before Election Day as he seeks a second term. The move will likely solidify a conservative court majority for years to come. Barrett is expected to be sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas at the White House on Monday night at 9:00PM. Trump’s choice to fill the vacancy of the late liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg potentially opens a new era of rulings on abortion, the Affordable Care Act and even a potential dispute over his own election.

DOnald Trump has slammed Joe Biden after he “couldn’t remember” his name and mistook the president for George Bush. The 77-year-old was speaking to supporters at a virtual concert as he continues to shun large rallies over coronavirus fears. Biden appeared to stumble over his words as he said the Democrat campaign was fighting against “four more years of George”. His wife Jill then appears to quietly correct him under her breath, and Biden went back to saying “Trump”. Following the fumble, Trump slammed his opponent on Twitter on Monday morning. The man invited the inspectors inside the building and offered them to look anywhere they want, and go into any room or floor of the building they choose. The only thing the inspector seemed concerned about was that she was being recorded.
