President Trump will be visiting Deal, NJ, next week, where he will be attending a private high-end fundraiser. Sources tell YWN that the event will be held at the home of the late Stanley Chera Z”L, a close friend of Trump, and one of the most prominent members of the Sephardic Syrian communities in Brooklyn and Deal NJ. Mr. Chera passed away in April from COVID-19. The President would frequently mention Mr Chera in his speeches. The prices to attend the fundraiser are quite costly. According to an internal invitation sent to likely donors, to meet the President at a round-table is a whopping $250,000. Cheaper options which include photo opportunities and a reception are $35,000, and a smaller option is $5,600.

Coronavirus czar Prof. Ronni Gamzu said on Army Radio on Sunday morning that any student who comes to Israel from abroad to study and violates Health Ministry regulations will be deported. Gamzu said that inspectors will ensure that students are adhering to regulations, including yeshivah bochurim, seminary students and university students. “Any institution that disregards the restrictions will be closed and anyone who disregards the restrictions will be deported,” Gamzu said. Israeli media reports over the weekend said that Gamzu criticized the decision to allow 16,000 yeshivah students into Israel. “We need to do the smart thing here and prevent another conflagration,” he said.

Anti-Kapporos crusaders are relaunching a legal attack against the Minhag which involves Shechita — arguing the novel coronavirus pandemic presents new evidence it’s harmful to human health. “This is a real danger now that needs to be recognized,” attorney Nora Marino said. “It’s not about what could happen, it’s about what has happened.” Marino, who represents the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos (the name has multiple accepted spellings) filed this month a motion to renew her case — struck down in 2018 by the New York Court of Appeals — and compel the NYPD to enforce Health Department codes she says are routinely broken during the pre-Yom Kippur atonement ritual.

Israel’s Health Ministry recorded 1,358 new coronavirus cases on Motzei Shabbos in the previous 24 hours, raising the number of active cases to 26,542, with 328 in serious condition, of whom 95 are ventilated. Eleven more fatalities were recorded, raising the death toll to 523. Jerusalem Affair Minister Rabbi Rafi Peretz (Bayit Yehudi) stated on Motzei Shabbos that following his coronavirus test on Friday, he was informed that he is positive, adding that he currently feels well. Peretz has been in quarantine since Thursday when his ministry’s director-general, Avi Cohen, tested positive for the virus.

The Ukrainian government has agreed to allow at least 5,000 people to visit Uman for Rosh Hashanah, according to the Ukrainian Chief Rabbi Rav Yaakov Dov Bleich, JTA reported. The government may increase the number to as high as 8,000 but all visitors will be banned from joining gatherings of over 30 people and will be required to wear face masks. The government is also considering other measures such as testing visitors for the coronavirus at the airport and/or requiring travelers to download software on their phones, “but basically, the Ukrainian government is not putting a stop to it,” Rav Bleich said. Rav Bleich also mentioned that Israeli health officials are worried about what will happen when Israelis return from their trip to Uman to Israel.

One Marine has died, two injured and eight others were missing after an amphibious assault vehicle accident off the coast of southern California, the Marines said early Friday. The accident happened Thursday and search and rescue efforts were underway Friday morning with support from the Navy and Coast Guard, the Marines said in a tweet. All of the Marines involved were assigned to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. I ask that you keep our Marines, Sailors, and their families in your prayers as we continue our search,” Col. Christopher Bronzi, the unit’s commanding officer, said in another tweet from the Marines.

Israel’s Health Ministry reported 1,889 new coronavirus cases in Israel in the previous 24 hours, raising the number of active patients to 26,080, with 321 seriously ill patients, of whom 99 are ventilated. The death toll has risen to 503. A Hebrew University report published on Thursday claims that Israel has gained control of the second wave of the coronavirus and is beginning to flatten the curve. The report says that the number of virus patients in serious and moderate condition has stabilized, attributing the improvement to the fact that the government re-imposed bans on gatherings and other restrictions in recent weeks. “The measures taken to stem the pandemic in early and mid-July led to a significant decrease in the infection rate,” said Prof.

A shift to mail voting is increasing the chances that Americans will not know the winner of November’s presidential race on election night. But that doesn’t mean the results will be flawed or fraudulent, as President Donald Trump suggested on Thursday. Trump, seeking to already undermine the results of an election he could lose, demanded that the winner of the Nov. 3 contest be known that night. ”I don’t want to be waiting around for weeks and months and literally, potentially if you really did it right, years, because you’ll never know,” Trump told reporters. The president has repeatedly raised fears of fraud involving mail-in voting, which is expected to be more widely used in the November election out of concern for safety given the COVID-19 election.

Twitter defended its decision to flag President Trump’s tweet about violent demonstrations but not Iran’s calls for violence against Israel, suggesting to Israeli’s legislature on Wednesday that the latter fell under its protections for “commentary on political issues of the day.” Human rights attorney Arsen Ostrovsky asked Twitter’s Ylwa Pettersson: “You have recently started flagging the tweets of President Trump.

President Trump on Thursday raised the possibility of delaying the November general election over claims that mail-in-voting will invite voter fraud, despite the fact that he lacks the authority to push back the date of the November 3 contest. Citing the expansion of mail-in-voting, Mr. Trump claimed the upcoming election “will be the most inaccurate & fraudulent election in history” and a “great embarrassment to” the United States. The dates of presidential elections — the Tuesday after the first Monday in November in every fourth year — are enshrined in federal law and would require an act of Congress to change. The Constitution makes no provisions for a delay to the Jan. 20, 2021 presidential inauguration.
