Tropical Storm Isaias is packing dangerous winds and heavy rain as it rapidly heads toward the Tri-State after making landfall as a hurricane near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. On the forecast track, the center of Isaias will to move near or along the coast of New Jersey by this afternoon. The primary threat from Isaias will be the torrential rainfall, but we also expect wind gusts up to 50 mph and possible tornadoes. Tornado watches have been issued for all of New York City, as well as Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties until 4 p.m. Tuesday. Israel has increased its capacity by only 19 beds in hospitals since the pandemic began, from 16,302 beds in February to 16,321 beds in July, according to a report by the Knesset Research and Information Center (RIC). According to the report, presented to the Knesset’s Special Committee for Public Petitions on Monday, additional beds from internal medicine wards were designated for coronavirus patients rather than increasing beds in general. There are currently 783 coronavirus patients hospitalized in Israel and three hospitals, Shaare Tzedek and Hadassah in Jerusalem, and Ichilov in Tel Aviv, are currently operating at over 100% capacity in their coronavirus wards and two others are at 94%.

The number of shootings in New York City continues to skyrocket. According to CBS, the total so far this year has surpassed the number of shootings in all of last year, and there is still five months to go! The IDF thwarted a terrorist attack in the Golan Heights on Sunday, scoring a direct hit on four terrorists as they were planting a bomb along Israel’s northern border, the IDF stated after midnight on Sunday. The four terrorists, who were all killed in the strike, crossed into Israel from Syria on Sunday night. and were observed trying to plant explosives inside an unmanned IDF post. IDF soldiers and aircraft immediately opened fire and killed all four terrorists, IDF Spokesperson Hidai Zilberman said on Monday morning. Some of the terrorists were armed. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident. Prof. Tal Zaks, Chief Medical Officer of the US biotechnology company Moderna, recently told Ynet that the Israeli government has ensured that Israeli citizens can receive Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine as soon as it’s ready. “As a former Israeli I’m glad to know that the Israeli government has indeed seen fit to make sure the vaccination will be available to its population,” Zaks told Ynet.
