The U.S. State Department said on Monday that the Israeli-Hezbollah ceasefire, which went into effect last Wednesday, is thus far “successful, broadly speaking,” with no determination yet made of accusations of Israeli violations.
Despite ongoing Israeli anti-terror strikes and Monday’s retaliation by Hezbollah, the ceasefire, brokered by the United States and France, has “been successful in stopping the fighting and getting us on a path where we are not seeing the daily loss of life that we had seen for two months prior,” Matthew Miller, the department’s spokesman, told reporters at the daily press briefing.

The Supreme Court appeared sympathetic Monday to arguments that the Food and Drug Administration acted properly when it rejected applications to market fruit- and dessert-flavored liquids for e-cigarettes that the agency says are particularly attractive to young people who risk getting hooked on nicotine.
The justices heard oral arguments in an FDA appeal of a lower-court decision, which found the agency had unfairly shifted its standards for approving the vaping products while deciding on applications from two companies.

An Israeli Navy ship on Monday night shot down a drone launched towards the country “from the east,” the Israel Defense Forces said, using a phrase that typically refers to an attack originating from Iraq.
The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was intercepted in the “Red Sea area” before crossing into Israeli territory, according to the military, which noted that no air-raid sirens were activated, as per policy.

Moshe Ya’alon, a former military chief and defense minister in a prior government led by Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, on Monday clarified remarks in which he accused the IDF of “ethnic cleansing.”
“I did not direct my words at the IDF, but at politicians who proudly speak of ethnic cleansing of Gaza (at this point, only the northern part of the Strip) and settling it with Jews. This is defined by law as a ‘war crime,’” Ya’alon said in a Hebrew statement.
Ya’alon claimed he hurled his accusations against the government after requests from “commanders who are acting in accordance with morality and law and told me that it was explained to them they were evacuating all Palestinians from the northern Gaza Strip for operational reasons.
