During a Tuesday address, the Rosh Yeshiva of Ponavezh, Hagaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein touched upon the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and particularly on the many Jews who have found themselves stranded in a warzone. “They stand in a position of sakanas nefashos. What can we do to increase zchusim to save them from the sakana? Maasim tovim would be a zchus to acheinu bnei yisroel in Ukraine,” he said. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)

Conservative Fox News host Sean Hannity didn’t mince words on Monday night, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin should be removed from power “by whatever means necessary.” Hannity said that “civilized countries” should agree on Putin’s removal and the Russian military should mount a coup to end his reign atop the Russian government. The conservative commentator’s comment came after he aired a heartbreaking clip of medical personnel unsuccessfully attempting to revive a 6-year-old girl who had been mortally wounded in a Russian artillery bombing. “Vladimir Putin killed that 6-year-old girl,” Hannity said. “Vladimir Putin started this war.

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo started airing a new ad on TV in the hopes that the electorate will bring him back into their embracing arms and allow him to mount a political resurgence. The 30-second ad, titled “Politics vs. the Law,” features a compilation of news reports saying that the accusations made against him have crumbled. “Political attacks won. And New Yorkers lost a proven leader,” the ad says. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)

As the war rages in Ukraine, including Uman, many non-Jewish locals, have turned to the Breslov Kloiz for assistance. As YWN reported, Uman has been targeted by Russian attacks due to the weapons depots in the area, and locals flocked to the Kloiz when air-raid sirens went off. Locals arrived at the protected area in the basement of the Breslover Kloiz. The few Jews still in Uman provided the locals with hot drinks and light refreshments and also administered medical assistance to those who needed it from the “Rosh Hashanah” medical clinic, which is mainly active during the crowded days of Rosh Hashanah.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the controversial Republican who has made a number of antisemitic remarks already, attended and addressed an event on Saturday headed by Nick Fuentes, an unabashed, virulent anti-Semite and Holocaust denier. Greene and another Republican, Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona, were at the America First Political Action Conference, an extreme far-right group organized by Fuentes. The event was to counterbalance the ongoing CPAC convention, with both events being held in Orlando, Florida. “Now they’re going on about Russia, Vladimir Putin is Hitler… they say that’s not a good thing,” Fuentes said, adding “I shouldn’t have said that” while laughing maniacally. After the event, Greene was pressed on her attendance, but claimed that she didn’t know Fuentes or what he stood for.

In 1903, a horrific massacre of Jews took place in Kishinev, Russia (now Chișinău, the capital of Moldova). The pogrom, which took place over a day and a half, ended after 49 Jews were killed, hundreds of Jewish women were assaulted, and 1,500 Jewish homes were damaged. In those days, prior to the Holocaust, the name “Kishinev” became synonymous with the worst anti-Semitic pogrom., with some saying that it changed history by pushing Jews toward Zionism and other causes. The city’s bitter history makes the following videos even more meaningful – Moldovan non-Jews flocking to the Beis Chabad in Kishinev to donate goods for Jewish refugees from Ukraine. The videos were taken by United Hatzalah of Ukraine.

With Russian President Vladimir Putin invading Ukraine and putting his country’s nuclear readiness on high alert, many high-profile figures are publicly questioning whether the former KGB agent still has control of his mental faculties. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggressiveness and decision-making in general in recent months could be the result of his long periods of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The speech he gave last week… was somebody who was not only justifying the invasion of a sovereign country but clearly had ambitions beyond that,” Psaki said in a Sunday morning interview with ABC. “He’s obviously been quite isolated during COVID,” she added.

As war rages in Ukraine, members of the Jewish kehilla in Odessa, led by HaRav Avraham Wolf, Chabad shaliach and Chief Rabbi of Odessa, were mechazeik b’emunah by dancing and singing in shul after Shacharis. Rav Wolf told i24NEWS that most of the Jews remaining in Odessa are stuck because they can’t get passports. “Whoever had an Israeli passport escaped,” he said. HaRav Wolf is also still taking care of over 100 orphans who lack passports. “We tried to issue passports for children in the orphanage – for two weeks we worked on issuing these passports and didn’t succeed because it’s impossible, there’s no options.” (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)

Hillary Clinton has found out who is at fault for Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and it’s not the person currently in the White House. In an interview with MSNBC, the failed 2016 presidential nominee repeatedly suggested that former President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans enabled Putin to commit whatever atrocities he’d like. Clinton accused Trump of “giving aid and comfort” to Putin as he invades Ukraine and said Republicans are enabling Putin’s wish to “undermine democracy,” which she said aligns with their values.
