Did President Joe Biden fall asleep during his Oval Office meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Friday? Biden met with the Israeli Prime Minister on Friday in his only public event for the day. President Biden sat down with the newly installed Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett Friday, roughly 24 hours after the deadly suicide bombing in Kabul. The president and the prime minister’s meeting, originally scheduled for Thursday, was postponed in the wake of the attack. In a brief media availability kicking off the closed-door encounter, both Biden and Bennett started by acknowledging the “brave sacrifice” by the 13 U.S. service members killed in the Kabul bombing. Biden told Bennett that he prefers diplomacy when it comes to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, but he said if that fails, the U.S. will consider “other options” to ensure Iran “never” gets nuclear bombs.

In a video statement, Trump described the Kabul attacks as “savage and barbaric” and “an act of evil”. Trump described the US servicemen killed in the attacks as “American heroes”, whose memory would be honored forever. “These noble American warriors laid down their lives in the line of duty,” he said. “They sacrificed themselves for the country that they love, racing against time to rescue their fellow citizens from harm’s way.

President Biden told reporters Thursday that he bears responsibility for the “messy” evacuation and consequential suicide bombings in Kabul. “I bear responsibility for fundamentally all that’s happened,” Biden told Fox News reporter Peter Doocy following a press briefing. “You know as well as I do that the former president made a deal with the Taliban that he would get all American forces out of Afghanistan by May 1. “In return, he was given the commitment that the Taliban would continue to attack others, but would not attack any American forces. Remember that?” Biden asked. The Fox News reporter did not answer the president’s question but instead asked whether he thinks Americans have a problem with how the withdrawal process has gone.

A video of a Blackhawk helicopter moving on the ground at the Kandahar airport has surfaced triggering the speculation whether the Taliban have trained pilots among them. The video, however, does not show who was controlling the helicopter and the Blackhawk, in the course of the video, does not take off the ground. In the recent Taliban offensive in which the Afghan army was decimated and the country fell to the hands of the Taliban, the Taliban managed to seize most of the weapons, equipment left behind the Afghan forces. And many of them are what the US military gave the Afghan army.

Dr Anthony Fauci infuriated many in the Orthodox Jewish Community after comments he made on “CBS This Morning” regarding “Hasidic Jews who were not getting vaccinated” and caused a measles outbreak in the NYC area. Fauci was responding to a question about “how close are we to getting back to some sense of normalcy where there are fewer guidelines and we don’t think about the Coronavirus on a daily basis….” Fauci responded by saying that all depends on how many people get vaccinated to be able to reach heard immunity. “You have to get to a situation like with measles, like you were like 90 plus percent of people were vaccinated and really got that kind of what we call herd immunity.

A large protest took place on Tuesday night in Jerusalem’s Bar Ilan intersection where Admorim and the head of the Eidah Chareidis, Hagaon HaRav Yitzchak Tuvia Weiss, were joined by hundreds of Charedim in protesting the construction of the Jerusalem Light-rail. HaRav Weiss, who celebrated his 95th birthday on Tuesday, helped organize the protest, which turned violent as police fired founl-smelling water cannons on the crowds. One border police officer was lightly injured and required medical attention from Magen David Adom after she was hit in the face with pepper spray by one of the protesters. In addition to the Gavad, the Toldos Aharon Rebbe also joined the protest from his car.

HaGaon HaRav Asher Arielli, a Maggid Shiur in Yeshivas Mir of Jerusalem whose shiur is the most heavily attended in the world, contracted COVID and is currently quarantining at home. HaRav Arielli was diagnosed with COVID after being fully vaccinated, like many other Israelis who are contracting the Delta variant despite being immunized. Fortunately, almost all those who are vaccinated suffer from mild symptoms only. The yeshiva has arranged for HaRav Arielli to continue delivering his famed shiur from his home via live broadcast to the Beis Shalom Beis Medrash to the hundreds of bochurim who attend the shiur in person and the thousands that listen via telephone. As he does every year, HaRav Yaakov Bender, the Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshivah Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway, New York, greeted the approximately 1,000 children arriving to Yeshiva today – the first day of the school year. With music playing in the background, Rabbi Bender embraces each child as they are his own children, infusing them with the love of Torah as they begin their new year.
