Following President Trump’s speech Thursday night at the White House — marking the end of the the Republican National Convention — a spectacular display of red, white and blue fireworks around the Washington Monument took place which spelled out “Trump 2020.” The National Park Service earlier this week said it had approved the fireworks permit. The Republican National Committee is footing the bill for the show, as well as for reimbursing the agency for its work overseeing the event, the parks service. (AP)

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden appears to have confused Jacob Blake with the 17-year-old who was arrested for shooting at rioters in Kenosha, Wis., during an interview on Thursday. Asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper why President Donald Trump has not addressed the police shooting of Blake, a 29-year-old black man, Biden replied with a response about a different man. A fire at a Louisiana chlorine plant erupted with thick, billowing smoke Thursday after Hurricane Laura plowed through part of the country’s petrochemical corridor with storm surges and fierce wind, forcing residents around the plant to shelter in their homes. The damage came three years to the month after the record rains of Hurricane Harvey inundated Houston’s refineries, storage tanks and chemical plants, unleashing dozens of toxic spills into surrounding communities’ air, land and water. State and federal aircraft were heading into the air over the battered Louisiana coast Thursday, looking for signs of any other industrial damage or releases from Laura.

When a passenger in an Uber taxi in Melbourne found out that his driver was Jewish, he insisted on leaving the car immediately, saying: “I’m not going to ride with a Jew,” The Jerusalem Post reported. “About 45 seconds into the trip, the man asked me if my name was Naftoli and if I was Jewish,” said the 60-year-old Uber driver, who was wearing a yarmulke on his Uber app photo. “When I answered that I was, he then said that he didn’t want a Jew driving him and asked to get out.” “I pulled over to the curb, and as he was getting out, he started calling me names such as Jewish scumbag,” he continued. “I was quite shaken by this and was concerned that he would assault me.” The driver reported the incident to Uber.

The NYPD is asking the public’s assistance identifying the following individual depicted in the attached surveillance video and photo regarding an assault that occurred in Willliamsburg. The NYPD tells YWN that at round 6:00AM on Tuesday, August 25th, a 46-year-old female victim was walking at the southwest corner of Division Avenue and Rodney Street, when an unknown individual approached from behind, picked up the victim and slammed her onto the sidewalk. The individual knelt beside her and repeatedly punched the victim in the face and body. The individual attempted to take the victim’s pants off as she was dazed laying on the sidewalk, before fleeing the scene on foot on Division Avenue towards Keap Street.

Hundreds of Mir bochurim from the United States and other countries recently arrived in Eretz Yisroel for the Elul zeman. The bochurim are required to enter quarantine for two weeks and since Israel’s Health Ministry requires the bochurim to be quarantined in groups of no more than six bochurim, the yeshivah had to find accommodations large enough to split up the bochurim in dozens of capsules. Appropriate accommodations were found at a lodging house in Ein Gedi.
