Chaim and Chana Yakovson had to wait many years before they had children. When they finally did, they never could have dreamed what would happen to their family last week. When Chaim and Chana’s youngest child turned three, the small family moved to Jerusalem where they rented a small apartment on Blau street. They were a close, tight-knit family of four and Chaim brought in stable income. Life was good.
But this past Sunday morning, it all came crashing down.
Chana woke up to see that her husband of eighteen years was not responsive. She quickly called for help and EMT members arrived on the scene. They began administering CPR in front of the little girls’ eyes but after several attempts, they had no choice but to announce him dead.
The neighbors who got to know Chaim a’’h describe a warm and hospitable man who was loved by all who knew him. Chaim leaves behind his wife Chana and two daughters Sari (12) and Michali (3). In a video spotted on social media, little Sari tries to describe her pain:
“My name is Sara Miriam and I am twelve. Before Pesach Abba taught me many stories about the Yom Tov, and on Seder night I knew how to repeat everything and Abba who was so excited promised me two Afikoman gifts. But he did not have time to buy me even one,” she says.
“On Sunday he went out to the park with my 3-year-old sister Michali. When they came home it was already late and we all went to bed. Abba told me good night and since then he has not gotten up. Now we are left alone: Me, 3-year-old Michali, and Mommy. It is very difficult and scary that Abba is not here. Please, help my mother take care of us and do not leave us alone, ” she requests.
Sari’s mother is having a hard time processing the tragedy and remarks:
“We were married for 18 years. It’s hard for me to digest that he is not here. He was a good person, everyone loved him so much. The girls were very attached to him and he to them, he was our backbone, and the primary breadwinner of the house as well. I do not know how to proceed from here. I ask: Please help us, and in exchange for this incredible mitzvah you should be blessed with only good, peace, and the greeting of moshiach very soon.”
