A career criminal with a rap sheet stretching back nearly four decades is behind bars once again — this time accused of burglarizing a Brooklyn wig store owned by an ultra-Orthodox woman and stealing $30,000 worth of merchandise, including wigs intended for cancer patients. Daron Ware, 52, allegedly broke into Hustle Wig on Dean Street in Crown Heights in the early morning hours of March 4. Surveillance footage captured the brazen heist: a man slipping into the shuttered shop and emerging moments later with a large sack of stolen goods. “They took wigs and materials to make the wigs — hair, some hats, and other random items,” said co-owner Rivky Krinsky. Nine of the hairpieces alone were valued at about $30,000, she said, with each wig worth an average of $3,300. Some of the wigs, meticulously crafted from real human hair, were intended for cancer patients battling through chemotherapy, Krinsky said. Fortunately, thanks to the shop’s staff, clients never had to experience delays. “We were able to replace the orders very quickly,” she noted. “We got everything out pretty much on time.” Police arrested Ware last month, charging him with burglary and illegal entry. He is currently being held at Rikers Island. Ware is a four-time convicted felon; he was on parole until 2026 and had amassed nearly 60 arrests since the 1980s. He served one year in prison in 1990 after being caught with a loaded firearm, followed by a 17-year stretch behind bars after a robbery conviction in 1991. Released in 2009, Ware’s freedom was short-lived. He was convicted again for robbery in 2013, serving another three-year sentence. Even after that, his string of offenses continued, culminating in a 2020 felony burglary conviction for stealing a package from a Brooklyn building. While awaiting sentencing in that case, he vanished for more than a year before authorities finally tracked him down. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
