On Erev Shabbos, just hours before Sabbos began, an electrical panel at the Nadvorna Bais Medrash in the city of Bnei Brak caught fire. Thankfully, there were no injuries, but major damage was caused to the building’s electrical system.
The electric company claimed they could repair it, but they said that the repair would take place on Shabbos. Following the guidance of the Rebbe, it was decided not to perform the repair work and not to get involved with repairs infringing on kedushas Shabbos.
As a result, the Chassidim davened under the open sky on Friday night, and on Shabbos morning they davened in a hall located beneath the Rebbe’s residence. Additionally, an auf ruf for one of the Chassidim’s sons and a bris milah also took place in the same hall.
The rebbe‘s tish that was supposed to be held on Friday night was canceled. Similarly, for seudah shlishis, the Rebbe partook in a small gathering with a few Chassidim in the hall located beneath the Rebbe’s residence.
