As part of the agreement for a ceasefire and the release of hostages with Hamas, Israel is set to free approximately 1,000 individuals from the Gaza Strip who had been detained following the October 7, 2023 events.
Avishai Grinzaig of i24NEWS reported that among those scheduled for release are individuals from Gaza who were interrogated by Israel but were determined not to have participated in the October 7 attacks or the subsequent fighting.
Grinzaig added that the individuals to be released include people who had been involved in launching rockets at Israel during earlier conflicts, tunnel builders, Hamas leaders, and other members of the Hamas apparatus.
According to the report, Hamas will select 500 of the 1,000 individuals to be freed, while Israel will make the selections for the remaining 500.
Moreover, as part of the agreement, Israel will release all women who had been detained during the operation, including one who had taken hostages.
Israeli officials responded to the report by stating that although Hamas is selecting 500 individuals for release, those names were taken from a list provided and vetted by Israel.
