Israeli security forces recently uncovered one of the largest weapon caches discovered in the West Bank in recent years, according to a report from the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit. The weapons were found hidden in two neighboring apartments in Al-Ram, a village near Ramallah, during a joint operation by the Home Front Command’s search-and-rescue teams and detectives from the Israel Police’s West Bank District.
Among the items recovered in the raid were M-16 rifles, a Glock pistol, a Ringo firearm, a 7.62mm sniper rifle, a hand grenade, explosives, a remote detonation device, thousands of rounds of ammunition, cash, and gold jewelry. “Binyamin station, acting on precise intelligence, located two apartments used as weapons depots. Our district works around the clock to prevent attacks in Judea and Samaria and inside Israel,” said Moshe Pinchi, the West Bank District Commander. “Any weapon that isn’t seized can easily end up in the hands of criminals and can all be used for terrorism. We work in full cooperation with the IDF and Shin Bet, which leads to these results.”
Lt. Col. A., the commander of the IDF battalion involved in the operation, mentioned that his troops had been active in the area for an extended period. “The difference from previous caches found is the sheer quantity and the presence of explosives,” he stated.
The crackdown on illegal weapons in the West Bank has become a growing concern in recent months, driven by increasing security threats. Authorities are particularly worried about the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners back into the region, as well as continued efforts by Hamas and Iran to smuggle weapons and funds to fuel instability, especially during the sensitive Ramadan period.
The investigation into where the seized weapons originated and how they arrived in the West Bank is ongoing, with the Shin Bet and police working together on the case. The IDF’s Central Command continues to prioritize the seizure of illegal weapons, specifically by targeting arms dealers who are known to supply both criminals and terrorists.
