Excitement is in the air at the Mir Yeshiva in Yerushalayim as preparations for the summer zman reach their peak. Over the bein hazmanim break, the yeshiva undertook a major renovation of its central beis medrash, which had not been refurbished in eighty years.
Workers labored around the clock — continuing even through the night — to ensure the project would be completed in time for the start of the new zman.
The extensive renovations included the restoration of the yeshiva’s historic Aron Kodesh, dating back to the era of the yeshiva’s legendary roshei yeshiva, as well as a full repainting of the main and oldest building on campus.
The renovation project was funded by several friends and supporters of the yeshiva from the United States.
In advance of the new zman, hundreds of new yungeleit and bochurim — from both Eretz Yisroel and abroad — were tested for acceptance into the yeshiva by the rosh yeshiva, Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, and the mashgiach, HaTzaddik Rav Binyomin Finkel. Due to the growth of the yeshiva, a serious shortage of space and significant overcrowding have developed.
