A Jewish woman in her 30s was stabbed at her home in the city of Lyon on Shabbos afternoon, French media reported. The perpetrator rang the doorbell of her home and when she opened the door, he stabbed her twice in her abdomen, a police spokesperson said. The perpetrator, a man with his face covered and dressed in dark clothing, then sprayed a swastika on the woman’s door and fled the scene. The woman’s doorpost boasted a mezuzah, which sadly, many Jews in Europe are now removing out of fear of being targeted. The woman was evacuated to the hospital for treatment for her wounds, which although serious, were Baruch Hashem not life-threatening. The woman’s lawyer Stéphane Deri said that “the victim, her family and the Jewish community are in shock.” He confirmed that a complaint will be filed for “attempted murder.” The rabbi of the city of Metz in France, Rabbi Pinchas Fishzon, told Ynet: “We are very worried. This is something that can happen anywhere in France. There is an atmosphere of anti-Semitism everywhere. I am not talking about the ‘ordinary’ French, who support us. The Muslims and the extreme left are protesting everywhere, even in my city, which is quiet, and they shout that Israel is committing genocide.” “It gives ideas to all kinds of crazy people who can go and kill Jews. In Paris, I know that some Jews are removing their mezuzahs, and there are some Rabbanim who allow it because it’s dangerous. This woman, Baruch Hashem, was saved, but I have never felt such an atmosphere in my life. It reminds me of the stories my mother told me about the days before World War II. But today, the police and army are guarding our school and shul. The government and the politicians on the right and the left also support us.” (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)
