In the aftermath of the harrowing events of October 7th, a new establishment has revealed itself in the month of Elul through its inaugural fundraising campaign on theChesedFund.com as a newcomer onto the stage of higher education. Florida Hebrew University (FHU), a religious online degree-granting institution for Torah-observant students, is making waves from the sunny coast of South Florida. Surprising Orthodox Jewish communities across the United States, FHU offers a rich array of undergraduate and graduate Torah-based degree and certificate programs designed to spark curiosity and foster growth. Programs such as Torah-Based Business Administration and Entrepreneurship, Sacred Linguistics, Tzniut Fashion, Torah-Based Nutrition Education, Jewish Music and Sacred Musicology, Torah-Based Agriculture, and Food Production aim to inspire a new generation of seminary, yeshiva, and Jewish day school graduates, as well as Torah-observant homeschoolers. Under the supervision of Rabbi Chay Amar (MHBH), Florida Hebrew University is not only focused on professional Torah-based education, but also seeks to break new ground in Torah-based academic research. With an Internal Review Board (IRB) in development, FHU aspires to attract seasoned rabbis as well as Torah-observant academic researchers eager to explore the anatomy of Torah mitzvot through rigorous qualitative and quantitative research. Such studies could provide groundbreaking insights and challenge the perspectives of skeptics and agnostics alike. FHU’s ambitions extend beyond academics. As the Founding President, Mrs. N. Esther Basha (MHBH), explains: “The university aims not only to provide continuity in Torah-based education for students who seek professional training, but also to make a positive impact on Torah-based culture. With Hashem’s help, we are building several FHU Centers to engage the Jewish community and empower those in need with skills to bring parnasa to their families.” Among these initiatives: FHU Language Center will help Jewish immigrants improve their English skills through affordable online programs. FHU Business Center will assist young entrepreneurs in building sustainable businesses. FHU Arts and Media Center will promote kosher music, fashion, and visual arts, fostering a vibrant cultural expression rooted in Torah values. Launching on 24 Nissan, 5785 (April 22, 2025), FHU’s newest offering – a 48-week professional Torah-Based Nutrition Education Certification Program for Women – will be led by Mrs. Basha, who is not only a Torah-based linguistic researcher, but also a certified nutrition educator with the passion for promoting health eating within Jewish communities. A few spots are still available for those who are ready to commit to becoming professional Torah-based educators within their communities. Florida Hebrew University represents a bold new chapter in Jewish education and culture. By paving the way for Torah-based professional development and research, FHU reaffirms its commitment to Torah observance as the foundation for personal and communal growth. It is a testament to the enduring relevance of Torah values in addressing modern challenges and building a brighter future.
