it is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Chaim Binyomin Goldberg zt”l, author of Pnei Baruch on the halachos of aveilus and other important seforim. Rav Goldberg was niftar at the age of 79.
Rav Goldberg was born on 28 Teves 5706 to Rav Boruch Pinchos Goldberg zt”l and Rebbetzin Chana Shprintza a”h. From a young age, he stood out as an exceptional talmid chacham, marked by humility, diligence, and deep yiras Shamayim.
He married Rebbetzin Nechama Toiba, daughter of Rav Chaim Zwebner, and together they built a home of Torah and chessed.
Rav Goldberg was a true ish ha’eshkolos, a master of many areas of Torah. He served as the rosh kollel of Kollel Medrash Shmuel in Nitra and authored numerous seforim across various Torah disciplines. However, he is most widely known for Pnei Baruch, his comprehensive and authoritative sefer on the laws of mourning, which has become a standard text in batei medrash and homes alike. That sefer was later translated into English by ArtScroll.
The sefer, along with his other works, received warm approbations from leading poskim, including Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv zt”l, the Minchas Yitzchak zt”l, Rav Yisroel Yaakov Fisher zt”l, and others. He saw these writings as a continuation of the works of his father, Rav Boruch Pinchos zt”l.
Rav Goldberg was niftar after enduring a prolonged illness.
The levayah was held at the Shamgar Funeral Home in Yerushalayim and he was laid to rest on Har HaMenuchos.
The shivah is being observed at his home, 4 Rechov Chana in Yerushalayim.
Yehi zichro boruch.
