Upon the shloshim of Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh, a matzeivah was placed at the kever of the rosh yeshiva at the Ponovezh Beis HaChayim in Bnei Brak.
The wording of the matzeivah was prepared by family members, and the matzeivah was constructed by the Weiss brothers, skilled matzeivah builders who have been constructing monuments for gedolim for years.
The matzeivah reads (free translation):
“Here lies the resting place of our master, teacher, and rebbi, the genius and humble righteous one, Rav Yerachmiel Gershon, may his memory be a blessing, son of the gaon Rav Zvi Yehuda, may his memory be a blessing, Edelstein, Rosh Yeshiva of Ponovezh Yeshiva.
“He toiled and labored in Torah and fear of G-d from his youth until his last day. He raised thousands of students in the holy yeshiva for over seventy years and devoted his soul to guide them in the path of truth.
“Wondrous in his humility and the beauty of his character, he diligently worked for the improvement of his fellow, providing them with counsel and wisdom. He benefited the masses and taught the ways of strengthening and awakening to Torah, fear of G-d, study of ethics, and good character traits.”
