In an event that brought tears to the eyes of all who attended, a solemn levayah was held on Erev Tisha B’Av for over 200 pairs of tefillin and numerous seforim that were tragically destroyed in a devastating fire at Camp Chaveirim, located within Camp Maaminim in the Catskills.
The kevurah took place today, on Tisha B’Av itself.
The fire, which erupted suddenly and swiftly engulfed the beis medrash, reduced the sacred items to ashes. The charred remains of the tefillin and seforim bore silent witness to the extent of the devastation, their once-sacred contents now unrecognizable.
In the aftermath of the fire, local and county authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
Dozens of Chesed Shel Emes volunteers, renowned for their unwavering commitment to kavod hameis, mobilized to salvage what remained of the tashmishei kedusha.
Assisted by members of the RNSP Shomrim, these volunteers painstakingly sifted through the charred wreckage, searching for the remnants of the tefillin and seforim.
Once the remnants were collected, Chesed Shel Emes organized a dignified levayah to honor the destroyed tefillin and seforim.
The kevurah took place at the Chesed Shel Emes cemetery in Woodridge, NY.
