It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rabbi Shlomo Eliezer Loberbaum z”l, one of the prominent and respected members of the Boyaner chassidus and a close confidant of the Boyaner Rebbe. He was 86.
Reb Shlomo was the owner of the legendary Maadanei Geulah restaurant in Yerushalayim.
Reb Shlomo was born on the 19th of Elul in 1938 to his father, Rabbi Yitzchak Loberbaum, and his mother, Mrs. Miriam Loberbaum.
He was deeply connected to the Rebbes of the Boyan dynasty and was a longtime and dedicated follower of the current Rebbe.
Reb Shlomo was one of the early askanim in the Boyaner community and a key organizer of the annual lighting of the chassidus’ fire in Meron on Lag Ba’omer. For many years, he served as the personal driver of the Boyaner Rebbe.
It was a longstanding custom for Reb Shlomo to participate in every Kiddush Levana of the Rebbe, as the Rebbe would honor him by inviting him to begin singing Tovim Meoros, calling him “Reb Shlomo Tovim Me’oros.”
For his livelihood, Reb Shlomo established the renowned Maadanei Geulah restaurant, which became a fixture in Yerushalayim’s Geulah neighborhood and a place known to all as a warm, welcoming spot for all who entered.
Reb Shlomo was known for his immense kindness and tzedakah. He was a regular giver to orphans and widows, always providing food free of charge.
One story shared by a chossid illustrates his chesed: “I saw an elderly widow come into the restaurant with her children, and Reb Shlomo gave her money, so she would feel dignified as though she were paying for the meal rather than receiving it for free.”
Reb Shlomo leaves behind a wonderful family. His son, Reb Avraham, now runs the family restaurant, and his other sons are Reb Chaim, Reb Yaakov, and Reb Dovid. His son-in-law is Rav Yaakov Deutch, a maggid shiur in Boyan.
The levayah will take place today on Sunday in Yerushalayim.
Yehi zichro boruch.
