It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Asher Yaakov Shternbuch zt”l of Golders Green, London. He was 75.
Rav Asher Yaakov was a son of Rav Dov and Rebbetzin Rochel Shternbuch. Rebbetzin Rochel was a daughter of Rav Alexander Ziskind Ellinson, one of the leaders of the Torah community in England.
In his youth, Rav Asher Yaakov served as a maggid shiur at the Belzer Bais Medrash. He was highly respected by the residents of Golders Green and was known as a man of great piety who taught Torah with great simcha. He was mechanech many talmidim, who appreciated his yedios haTorah and his warmth toward each of them.
In London, he served as the rosh kollel of the morning kollel at the Sadigura Bais Medrash and was also marbitz Torah at Bais Medrash Bais Shmuel-Radomishla.
Rav Asher Yaakov’s life revolved around Torah learning and teaching. He delivered shiurim all his life. He was a tremendous talmid chochom, but always carried himself with utmost humility.
In the last year, he endured terrible suffering, yet he continued to learn and daven and engage in avodas Hashem with true devotion.
He leaves behind a family of outstanding bnei and bnos Torah. One of his children is Mrs. Tzipporah Sorotzkin, wife of Rav Zalman Sorotzkin, rov of the Lutzk Bais Medrash in Lakewood.
The levayah is being held tonight at the Shamgar Funeral Home in Yerushalayim, followed by kevurah on Har Hazeisim.
