It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Betzalel Edelstein zt”l. He was 68.
Rav Betzalel was the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ahavas Aharon and a son of the late rosh yeshiva of Ponovezh, Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l.
Two and a half years ago, Rav Betzalel fell ill and became bedridden. Doctors gave him only a few months to live, and the name Noach was added as a zechus.
On the first night of Chol Hamoed, he passed away at his home in Bnei Brak, surrounded by his family.
Rav Betzalel was born in Bnei Brak on the 6th of Sivan, a son of Rav Gershon and Rebbetzin Rochel, daughter of Rav Yehoshua Zelig Diskin, rov in Russia and later in Pardes Chana.
From a young age, it was evident that Rav Betzalel possessed unique qualities, characterized by his modesty and exceptional middos.
In his youth and adolescence, he was educated at the Ponovezh Yeshiva, where he shteiged. He immersed himself in Shas and poskim throughout his life, and was known for his great yiras Shomayim and chochmah, as well as his remarkable middos tovos.
He married his wife, Sarah Ita, daughter of rav Biynomin Gutterman of Bnei Brak.
He ultimately founded Yeshiva Ahavas Aharon in Bnei Brak, designed for talmidim from non-religious backgrounds who were drawn closer to the Ribono Shel Olam Rav Betzalel was like a father to the talmidim, guiding them with unwavering dedication.
He was always by his father’s side, and learned with him every morning. He was also very close to the rosh yeshiva Rav Berel Povarsky and would often visit his home for consultations regarding yeshiva matters.
He leaves behind an outstanding family following in his ways. Just over a year ago, he married off his youngest daughter.
The levayah was held at Yeshiva Ahavas Aharon on Rechov Ben Yaakov in Bnei Brak, followed by kevurah at the Ponovezher Bais Hachaim.
