It has been revealed that during the first part of the meeting of gedolim this week in Bnei Brak, Slabodka rosh yeshiva Rav Dov Landau expressed to the Gerrer Rebbe that his stance is to withdraw from the governing coalition immediately due to the ongoing delay in the recruitment law. However, he clarified that he is also committed to the opinion of Slabodka rosh yeshiva Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, who holds a different view and believes that a decision on leaving should be postponed.
Rav Dov shared these remarks in the early minutes of the meeting, while they were waiting for Rav Hirsch to join.
“I would instruct the members of Knesset to leave the coalition now,” Rav Landau said. “But I have a partner, Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, and his opinion is that we should still wait before making a decision.”
Once Rav Hirsch joined the meeting, discussions shifted to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s promises, with all the participants agreeing that he could not be trusted. Rav Landau expressed strong criticism of the Prime Minister, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with the situation.
In relation to this, earlier that evening, Knesset member Moshe Roth was interviewed by Avi Mimaron on Kol Chai and mentioned that the Sanzer Rebbe also does not trust Netanyahu.
At the conclusion of the meeting, after an internal deadline was agreed upon, Rav Hirsch suggested sending members of Knesset to Prime Minister Netanyahu to share the decision of the gedolim. The message was promptly delivered that evening, making it clear to Netanyahu that the Torah leadership is united in its demand for expedited progress on the recruitment law.
