Rav Avrohom Elimelech Biderman celebrated his 57th birthday yesterday.
On Motzaei Shabbos, Rav Meilech traveled to Haifa, where the Be’er HaEmunah group hosted a Melaveh Malkah in his honor. To mark the occasion Rav Meilech’s followers committed to strengthening their observance of shmiras haeinayim (guarding one’s eyes) in honor of his birthday, the 9th of Cheshvan.
A letter, signed by hundreds of followers, reads: “We firmly resolve, without taking a formal vow, to uphold the verse, ‘He who shuts his eyes from seeing evil,’ and to strengthen ourselves in shmiras haeinayim at least 57 times, in honor of our rebbi.”
In Tzfas, members of another chaburah associated with Be’er HaEmunah also took on a kabbolah, pledging to refrain from speaking during davening and krias haTorah for 57 days in Rav Meilech’s zechus.
Throughout the day, Rav Meilech remained near the kever of Rashbi in Meron, where he recited the entire Sefer Tehillim several times to mark his special day.
