Rosh Yeshivas Rashbi Rav Meir Tzvi Bergman, member of the Moetzes Chachmei Hatorah of Degel Hatorah, has issued a dramatic letter. In this handwritten letter, he addresses recent events within the Degel Hatorah movement.
“Those who claimed that the preservation of Torah and Judaism depends solely on a certain representative…these are matters devoid of substance,” writes Rav Bergman in his impassioned letter.
Commencing the letter, Rav Bergman states, “I hereby address the community of God-fearing individuals united under the banner of Degel Hatorah. It is widely known how much effort our great leader, Hagaon Rav Shach zt”l, invested, with utmost dedication, in establishing and strengthening Degel Hatorah, to ensure that matters are conducted in accordance with the ways of Torah and mussar.”
In this context, Rav Bergman delved into the issue of upholding agreements signed by the Degel Hatorah party, stating, “It is crystal clear that if Degel Hatorah, under the directive of our great Torah leaders zt”l, signed agreements committing to their fulfillment, it is incumbent upon us to uphold these agreements, as dictated by the Torah.”
Furthermore, he emphasizes, “Anyone claiming that the preservation of Torah and Judaism is contingent solely on a specific individual, even if they are all God-fearing, and therefore there is no need to honor the agreements, such claims have no basis.”
Rav Bergman concludes his letter by asserting, “On the contrary, this is the fulfillment of Torah and Judaism, and it is the sole guarantee to prevent discord and desecration of Hashem’s name. This approach is unwavering for Degel Hatorah and its loyal members.”
