It is with great sadness that Matzav.comreports the petirah of Rav Meir Tzvi Brand zt”l at the age of 81. Rav Brand was the head of the Shomrei Hachomos Kollel, served as a member of the Bais Din Tzedek of Kahal Machzikei Hadas of Belz, and was one of the revered elder rabbonim of the Biala community.
Rav Brand was born in Yerushalayim in 1944. His father was Rav Eliezer Dovid Brand, a R”M at Yeshivas Shomrei Hachomos and one of the heads of Otzar Haposkim and Mifal Hashas. His mother was Rebbetzin Liba Zelige, daughter of Rav Yonah Ze’ev Zwiebner.
In his youth, Rav Brand studied at Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. He began his career as a melamed in a cheder, but after several years, he devoted himself entirely to Torah study at Kollel Shas, where he developed a close connection with the Shefa Chaim of Sanz, the president of the kollel.
In 1970, he was appointed by the Chelkas Yehoshua of Biala, to whom he was very close, to serve as the baal toke’a for the Biala chassidus. Following the passing of the Chelkas Yehoshua, he cleaved to his son, the Mevaser Tov of Biala, and was the first person to present a kvittel to the current Biala Rebbe.
