it is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Yaakov Gershon Weiss zt”l, author of the seforim Middos Umishkalos Shel Torah and Yom V’Laylah Shel Torah. He was 87.
Rav Weiss was born on the first of Adar in 1938 to his father, Rabbi Chaim Weiss, and his mother, Mrs. Leah Weiss.
In his youth, he studied under Rav Yisrael Zev Gustman and under Rav Aharon Kotler  in Lakewood.
He also received semicha from his rebbi, the posek hador, Rav Moshe Feinstein.
Rav Weiss married his wife, Malka, daughter of Rav Shmuel Yehuda Frankel.
Rav Weiss dedicated his life to limud and harbotzas haTorah. He became very close to many gedolei Torah, including Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach.
A man of immense Torah knowledge, as mentioned, he wrote two pivotal seforim, which have become treasured resources for lomdei Torah worldwide.
Rav Weiss’s piety and yiras Shomayim were legendary. He was known for his humility, chesed, and willingness to help others, always avoiding any personal kavod or recognition.
Despite his illness and the suffering he endured, he accepted all nisyonos with emunah and bitachon.
Rav Weiss is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren following in his ways.
The levayah was held at the Gra Shul in the Bayit Vagan neighborhood of Yerushalayim, followed by kevurah on Har HaMenuchos.
