At an atzeres hesped l’illui nishmas Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l held at the main shul of Ramat Elchanan, there were several speakers, including Rav Yitzchak Zilberstein, rov of Ramat Elchanan, as well as Rav Yehuda Silman, Rav Ma’asoud ben Shimon, Rav Chaim Mordechai Ausband and Rav Yehoshua Edelstein.
“The rosh yeshiva was a giant among giants,” said Rav Zilberstein. “His character traits were remarkable, and his dedication to and love for Torah were boundless. Outstanding qualities that distinguished him were his truthfulness and humility. He lived by these values, and truth was his guiding principle.”
He then continued, “He never got angry. I have never seen a person who never got angry in a hundred years. He never insulted anyone. There was someone who recently greatly offended him, but he would not speak ill of him, G-d forbid… He was like a half-malach (angel).”
