During a visit by family members of hostages to Bnei Brak in advance of Sukkos, they went to the home of Rebbetzin Leah Kolodetsky, daughter of Rav Chaim and Rebbetzin Batsheva Kanievsky and wife of Rav Yitzchok Kolodetsky.
During the visit, the Rebbetzin disclosed that her husband, Rav Yitzchok, has been sleeping on a wooden board placed on his bed. He has been doing so for a year, since the outbreak of the war.
The Rebbetzin showed the families the board and said, “You can enter the room and see. How can we sleep comfortably when we have no idea how or where the kidnapped are sleeping?”
Senior journalist Yisrael Cohen revealed this detail of the visit, stating, “We came to Rebbetzin Kolodetsky for a brocha. Casually, she mentioned that her husband, Rav Yitzchok Kolodetsky, has not slept on a bed since Simchas Torah. The son-in-law of Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky … over the age of 70, decided to sleep on a wooden board placed on the bed. It has been a year. He remembers every single day. ‘You can enter the room and see. How can we sleep comfortably when we have no idea how or where the kidnapped are sleeping?’ the Rebbetzin said.”
