It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rebbetzin Rochel Leah Shapiro a”h, wife of Rav Dovid Yitzchok Shapiro, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Be’er Yaakov. She was 71 and passed away at Maayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak after a prolonged illness.
The rebbetzin was the daughter-in-law of Rav Moshe Shmuel Shapiro, rosh yeshiva of Be’er Yaakov, who was a great-grandson of the Netziv of Volozhin and a nephew of the Brisker Rov.
Born in Yerushalayim in 1953, she was the daughter of Rav Moshe Meir Halevi Prag, head of the Shomrei Hachomos Kollel, and Rebbetzin Sarah Hinda, who was a daughter of the renowned mekubal Rav Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Shaar Hashamayim.
In 1973, she married Rav Dovid Yitzchok Shapiro, who became the rosh yeshiva of Be’er Yaakov in 2006, succeeding his father.
The rebbetzin was renowned for her role as the “aim hayeshiva – the mother of the yeshiva,” always tending to the needs of the students with exceptional care and warmth.
She leaves behind her husband and their children and grandchildren. The levayah and kevurah were held at the Ponovezh Bais Hachaim in Bnei Brak.
Yehi zichrah boruch.
