Released hostage Omer Shem Tov, who returned to Israel almost three months ago, spoke to Channel 12 in a recent interview about his horrific ordeal in captivity. One thing he said in the extensive interview, which will be published at the end of the week, is that the terrorists ordered him to carry out an attack against IDF soldiers. “They put booby traps in the house that was above the tunnel, and then they said to me: ‘Omer, when soldiers arrive at this house – you blow it up. Like this.'” “I told them: ‘No.’ And then they told me: ‘You won’t do it – we’ll shoot you in the head.’ I told them: ‘Then shoot me in the head.'” Omer’s mother, Shelly, told the Knesset’s Education Committee about two months ago about the difficult conditions in which Omer was held. “Omer returned home after 505 days in Gaza and every day he is at home is a neis,” she said. “Omer met Hashem twice during his captivity.” “At the beginning of his captivity, Omer was above ground for 54 days together with Itay Regev.” “One day, a dud bomb fell fifty meters from them, and that was the first time Omer met Hashem in captivity.” “Immediately after Itay Regev was released, Omer was transferred to a tunnel that did not allow him to stand or straighten his arms, with a small flashlight. At first he received a pita a day, and then one biscuit a day and salty water. In the last five days, the battery in the flashlight ran out, Omer remained in the dark and prayed to the Borei Olam to get him out of the tunnel.” “Two hours later, his captors arrived and took him out of the tunnel. After two days, the commander demanded that he be returned to the tunnel, and one of the captors said he would return him in the morning. That night, the tunnel was bombed. That was the second time there was divine Hashgacha over Omer.” (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)
