Abdel Latif al-Qanoua, a representative for Hamas, has left the possibility open for further discussions regarding a ceasefire and a potential deal for the release of the remaining Israeli hostages held by the group.
Amid intensifying military operations by Israel in Gaza, al-Qanoua mentioned that proposals from US envoy Steve Witkoff, along with others, are currently being reviewed with mediators, and the talks aimed at finalizing the deal are ongoing.
Al-Qanoua blamed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for obstructing the ceasefire agreement, accusing him of prioritizing his government’s survival over the safety of the hostages and the implementation of the deal.
When discussing the “post-war” scenario, al-Qanoua stated that Hamas is open to a proposal for managing Gaza, one that would be based on broad consensus. This would include forming a local management committee in Gaza that would exclude Hamas from involvement.
He emphasized that Hamas does not seek to govern the Gaza Strip and that the group’s main objective is to achieve national consensus on the matter.
Al-Qanoua also claimed that Israel resumed its offensive with support from the United States and urged the Trump administration to refrain from taking sides in the conflict, instead pushing Israel to return to a ceasefire.
