Yerushalayim Mayor Moshe Leon had a personal conversation with the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Rebbe. A range of topics related to Yerushalayim were discussed, with the light rail issue being prominent after a demonstration that took place this week at the rebbe’s direction.
The rebbe expressed concerns to the mayor about the impact of the light rail, and the mayor presented a series of steps that would be taken to preserve the character of the area, including dedicated stations for the chareidi sector, shading the train’s windows, and additional measures to maintain the area’s character.
The mayor explained to the rebbe how the light rail significantly outweighs the current situation of hundreds of buses passing through the city center, causing congestion. The light rail is superior in every parameter, both spiritually and physically. The rebbe said that he is pleased to hear the other side and is now hearing arguments that he was not aware of. The rebbe emphasized that he opposes any acts of violence.
The rebbe emphasized again that everything possible should be done so that the light rail’s routes do not harm the uniqueness of the chareidi neighborhoods. The rebbe clarified that he intends to continue direct dialogue and believes in it, and he does not support any disturbances or violence.
The second part of the conversation dealt with the assistance led by the mayor to educational institutions, tzedakah organizations, and the like.
