President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that he is convinced Lee Harvey Oswald was responsible for the 1963 killing of President John F. Kennedy, but he questioned whether Oswald acted alone in the crime.
When asked whether he thought Oswald was the one who killed JFK, Trump replied, “I do. And I’ve always held that, of course he was, was he helped?” Trump shared this opinion during an interview on Air Force One with Clay Travis, the founder of the sports site Outkick. The federal government, including the Justice Department, has consistently upheld the finding that Oswald acted alone in the assassination. However, surveys indicate that a significant portion of the American public still suspects a conspiracy behind Kennedy’s death in Dallas.
At the direction of President Trump, the government released thousands of documents related to the assassination of Kennedy this week, making them available to the public.
Trump had committed during his campaign last year to increasing transparency around the circumstances of Kennedy’s death. When he assumed office, he also instructed his staff to devise a plan for the release of records connected to the 1968 murders of his brother, Robert F. Kennedy, and the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
