A handwritten cross-out of Maran Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l has come to light: He crossed out words on the cover of his copy of the sefer “Asifas Shmuos” containing his shmuessen published by his talmid Rav Yisrael Cohen.
In his humility, Rav Gershon crossed out the titles that were written on it, both the title “Maran” and the title “Rosh HaYeshiva.”
The original wording on the sefer cover was:
ליקוטי דברים בהלכה ובאגדה מתורתו ומשנתו של רבנו ראש הישיבה מרן הגאון רבי ירחמיאל גרשון אדלשטיין שליט”א.”
Rav Gersיon crossed out the words “Likלutei,” “Toraso umishnaso,” “Rosh HaYeshiva,” and “Maran.”
Apparently, Rav Gershon viewed these words as excessive glorification of his name and title and thus decided to erase them from the cover.
