Police in Peoria, Ill., are investigating nine broken windows at a shul in the city.
Authorities believe the vandalism at Congregation Anshai Emeth, which houses the Hebrew Day School, occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, when it was reported to law enforcement.
“It is under investigation by a detective, and at this point, there is no suspect information,” said Officer Amy Dotson, public-information officer for the Peoria Police Department. “No entry was made, and nothing in the chapel appeared to be disturbed.”
She said the windows were broken by either rocks or bricks, and among the rooms impacted were classrooms and a kitchen.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a statewide executive order Friday night that now allows any gathering of up to 10 people, so long as social distancing is observed.
The surprise order permits “any non-essential gathering of ten or fewer individuals, for any lawful purpose or reason, provided that social distancing protocols and cleaning and disinfection protocols required by the Department of Health are adhered to.”

With nine of its 10 regions either having started or been approved for Phase 1 reopenings, New York reported its lowest daily number of deaths linked to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in two months, the Daily Voice reports.
A total of 84 people in the state died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. That’s the lowest daily total since Tuesday, March 24. Of the 84 deaths, 62 were in hospitals, 22 in nursing homes.

Hertz Global Holdings, the car-rental company founded with a dozen Ford Model Ts over a century ago, filed for bankruptcy late Friday after sweeping travel restrictions and the global economic collapse destroyed demand for its vehicles.
The Chapter 11 filing in Delaware allows Hertz to keep operating while it devises a plan to pay creditors and turn around the business. The second-largest U.S car-rental-car company does not need debtor-in-possession financing for now, according to a person familiar with the matter, because it has more than $1 billion cash on hand.

To my understanding there is no scientific evidence that the virus itself has subsided (there are far less cases, but this is obviously because of restrictions). History has shown that epidemics and pandemics tend to stay around for a while ר”ל ה’ ישמרנו. There is no clinical evidence that gives us an excuse to be more lax.

President Donald Trump’s administration discussed the possibility of holding a nuclear test — America’s first since 1992 — as a message to Russia and China, the Washington Post reported Friday.
The newspaper cited one senior current official and two former members of the administration as saying that the discussion was held on May 15.
One of the sources told the newspaper that a show of a “rapid test” capability would be a valuable negotiation tool as Washington seeks to set up a trilateral agreement on nuclear weapons with Moscow and Beijing.
The conversation reportedly produced no decision, and there was no certainty whether the prospect was ever discussed further.

The Palestinians have suspended security coordination with the CIA following an announcement to end to similar cooperation with Israel and the United States in the West Bank, announced Palestine Liberation Organization secretary general Saeb Erekat on Thursday.
The move came after Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas stated on Tuesday that the Palestinians would no longer honor their agreements with America and Israel, including on security cooperation.
“It stopped as of the end of the [Palestinian] president’s speech,” Erekat told reporters in a video call, referring to the halt in cooperation with Langley.

A woman has died in the Gaza Strip after contracting coronavirus, the Palestinian enclave’s first known fatality from the global pandemic, the health ministry said on Saturday.
Gaza, run by the Islamist group Hamas, has reported only 55 coronavirus infection cases among its population of two million. Meanwhile, in areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank there have been two deaths and 423 cases.
The Gaza health ministry described the fatality as a 77-year-old woman who had entered via the Egyptian border on May 19 and had been kept in quarantine since. She suffered from a prior chronic illness, the ministry said.

As reported on Matzav.com, President Donald Trump announced on Friday that all governors are to allow the immediate opening of houses of worship, including shuls, and that if they do not open these houses of worship, he will intervene.
The lead-up to the president’s speech and what happened behind the scenes is largely unknown, but sources indicate that Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar’s involvement led to the president’s statement.
As soon as the corona epidemic broke out two months ago, a call from the White House to some New York rabbonim was led by Rav Aharon of Satmar, who spoke with the president’s special adviser, Avi Berkowitz, who asked the rebbe to ensure that shuls are closed.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations will conduct an internal review of the probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
On Friday, the FBI announced it will review the investigation to see if there was any misconduct on behalf of the agents involved in the case and if any disciplinary action is needed.
It is unclear how many of the investigators linked with the probe are still part of the FBI, but many of the key figures, including ex-Director James Comey, his deputy Andrew McCabe and agent Peter Strzok are already out.
