Rav Meir Halevi Horowitz, the Maharam Titkin (1743). Titkin was founded in 1437. In 1522, ten Jews from Grodno, Lithuania, became the first Jews to settle there. At that time, Lithuania was three times the size of Poland, stretching from the Baltic almost to the Black Sea, including areas known today as White Russia and Ukraine. Titkin’s first Rav was Reb Mordechai (1538),
Rav Avraham Menachem Halevi Steinberg, Rav of Broide (Brody; Brod) (1847-1928). He was a Sadigerer chassid, was one of the leading poskim of his day, and wrote the sefer Machzeh Avraham.

An Israeli citizen who traveled to Syria to join the Nusra Front and “die a martyr’s death” crossed the border back into Israel last month and was arrested by the Shin Bet security agency and the Israel Police, the Shin Bet reported Sunday after an embargo on the story was lifted.
Ranwa Rasmi Mahmoud Shanawi, 22, a resident of the town of Jadeidi-Makr near Akko, was arrested upon her return to Israel in early May and taken for interrogation. Shanawi told investigators she had been in contact with a Syrian citizen who suggested she come to Syria and join the Nusra Front. Shawai agreed, seeking a “martyr’s death.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Saturday described an article from Politico about his wealth as being anti-Semitic.
Politico’s article, “The Secret of Bernie’s Millions,” has been blasted by progressives as being anti-Semitic for its portrayal of the Jewish senator’s wealth, which included a picture of Sanders beside a tree made of money.
“Call that what it is, an anti-Semitic article,” the 2020 presidential candidate said after The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur mentioned the article in an interview.

Israeli doctors have developed a method of using a 3-D printer to facilitate delicate and complex operations.
According to Makor Rishon, physicians at the Galilee Medical Center in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya used the technique to treat a woman whose eye socket was badly damaged in a car accident.
The doctors scanned the patient’s face and then used a 3-D printer to produce an exact replica, or “simulation,” of her skull.
This allows the physicians to plan the complex restorative operation, practice on the model and create the specific implant to be used to repair the eye socket.

President Trump ripped CNN, a frequent target of his, early Monday as he arrived to London for his first state visit to the United Kingdom.
Trump tweeted that his “only problem” during the trip was that the primary source of U.S. news in the U.K. was CNN — a network whose coverage he described as “negative” and “so much Fake News.”
Trump suggested in a follow-up tweet that if consumers stopped using or subscribing to CNN’s parent company, AT&T, it “would be forced to make big changes at CNN.”

Two new shuls were inaugurated at Istanbul’s new international airport, considered to be the largest in the world.
“There are more Turkish Airlines flights from Tel Aviv to Istanbul then from Istanbul to London,” said Rabbi Mendy Chitrik, the Chabad emissary and Ashkenazi rabbi of Turkey. “They supply between 600 and 5,000 Kosher meals daily, certified by the Rabbinate of Turkey, under my supervision.”
“It is heartwarming that even in Istanbul, every Jew can lay tefillin and pray. The Turkish government does not interfere. Synagogues have been functioning in Istanbul for over 1,000 years. The Jewish community is, thank God, active and thriving,” the rabbi added.

A California man pleaded guilty Friday to a plot against an Orange County, Calif., synagogue and two churches he perceived as tied to the Jewish community, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Nicholas Wesley Rose, who allegedly kept a “kill list” of prominent Jewish people, pleaded guilty Friday to one felony count of carrying a loaded firearm not registered to him and three misdemeanor civil rights violations in connection with the threats.
After making his plea, Rose was sentenced to two years and three months in the Orange County Jail and another year in a residential mental health treatment program, along with five years’ probation under GPS monitoring. Rose is also required to remain at least 500 yards from the victims of his threats, according to the newspaper.
