Lakewood collectively remembers BINGO’s famous children’s shoe sale last year. Thousands waited in line for the opportunity to purchase beautiful, top quality shoes, at the bargain price of $40 a pair. For many, this may have been the first time they’d seen a specially designed item for the frum market, of the quality our community is accustomed to, offered at below market value. At BINGO, this type of sale is an everyday occurrence. BINGO entered the American supermarket scene with the motto “No Shticks, No Tricks,” and they’ve remained true to their word. After their resounding success in servicing the Brooklyn community, BINGO turned their attention to Lakewood.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Moscow has never delivered weapons to the Taliban movement in Afghanistan, countering U.S. allegations. Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova rejected the claim by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who said Wednesday that he had repeatedly raised the issue during his talks with the Russians. “Russia has only supplied weapons to the legitimate government of Afghanistan, which is well known,” Zakharova said at a briefing.

By Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5tjt.com “That person is a murderer – going to kill dozens of people if not more!” “Well, that other person is a moiser!  How dare he?” Rav Shmuel Brudny zt”l, a Rosh Yeshiva in the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn, once explained an essential difference between Chanukah and Purim.  He asked why it was that Purim achieved a higher status in terms of spirituality than Chanukah did?  Rav Brudny answered, “On Purim, upon which it is stated, “Lech knos es kol haYehudim – go and gather all the Jews..” – we demonstrated achdus.  Esther gave back a message to Mordechai that all the Jews should gather and daven and fast – to assist in nullifying the horrible decree.  Klal Yisroel demonstrated achdus.  On Chanukah, however, there were many misyavanim – and we were missing thi

Two members of Congress representing New York City, Yvette Clarke and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, have prevailed in the state’s Democratic primary. Thousands of votes cast by mail in the primary that concluded June 23 have yet to be counted, but an AP analysis of absentee ballots returned so far indicated Wednesday that both held leads after in-person voting that were too large for their opponents to overcome. Clarke defeated four challengers in New York’s 9th Congressional District, including Adem Bunkeddeko, who she also beat in a primary in 2018. Clarke, 55, has been in Congress since 2007 and is the only Black woman in New York’s congressional delegation. Her district covers parts of Brooklyn including Crown Heights, Flatbush and Sheepshead Bay.

European police delivered a major blow to organized crime after cracking an encrypted communications network, allowing them to covertly watch “over the shoulder” of criminals in real time as they planned drug trafficking, arms sales, assassinations and torture, officers announced Thursday. The massive cross-border probe started in 2017 when French police began investigating phones using the EncroChat secure communication tool and ultimately were able to work around the encryption to gain direct access to users’ communications. “It was as though we were sitting at the table where criminals were chatting among themselves really,” said Jannine van den Berg, chief of the Dutch National Police Force.

Israel is experiencing a heatwave, with unseasonably high temperatures on Wednesday and an additional rise in temperatures on Thursday. The Health Ministry has warned the Israeli public, especially the elderly and anyone suffering from chronic illness to avoid exposure to the sun, refrain from unnecessary physical exertion, increase water intake and stay in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible. There will be a further rise in temperatures on Friday with hot and dry conditions in the mountains and interior of the country and humidity on the coastal plain, with heavy heat prevailing over most of the country. Fortunately, there will be some relief from the heat on Shabbos, with a noticeable decrease in temperature expected in the mountains and interior of the country.
