After prodding from Democratic lawmakers, the Trump administration has agreed to give Congress — but not the public — complete data on the millions of small businesses that received loans from a $600 billion-plus coronavirus aid program. Senior administration officials told lawmakers they will provide full details on the roughly 4.7 million taxpayer-funded loans worth $515 billion awarded under the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program. Their concession came with a warning to lawmakers not to divulge “confidential” loan information to the wider public. Rep.

Facebook said Friday that it will flag all “newsworthy” posts from politicians that break its rules, including those from President Donald Trump. Separately, Facebook’s stock dropped more than 8%, erasing roughly $50 billion from its market valuation, after the European company behind brands such as Ben & Jerry’s and Dove announced it would boycott Facebook ads through the end of the year over the amount of hate speech and divisive rhetoric on its platform. Later in the day, Coca-Cola also announced it joined the boycott for at least 30 days. CEO Mark Zuckerberg had previously refused to take action against Trump posts suggesting that mail-in ballots will lead to voter fraud, saying that people deserved to hear unfiltered statements from political leaders.

A 19-year-old woman passed away from the coronavirus on Shabbos in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. The woman was severely obese which caused her limited motility and also suffered from congestive cardiac failure and pulmonary hypertension. Upon admittance to the hospital only a week and a half ago she was immediately attached to a ventilator and when her condition deteriorated she was hooked up to an ECMO machine. Unfortunately, she did not respond to the treatment and her condition continued to deteriorate. The hospital made a decision to treat her with the first passive coronavirus vaccine, administering Immunoglobulin G (IgG) formulated from anti-body rich plasma donated by recovered coronavirus patients.

The number of coronavirus cases in Israel has risen to 22,800 as of Motzei Shabbos, with 6,102 active patients with 41 in serious condition, of whom 23 are ventilated. The death toll has risen to 317, including Israel’s youngest fatality, a 19-year-old woman with pre-existing health conditions who passed away on Shabbos at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. The Ministerial Committee on Declaring Restricted Zones made a decision late Thursday night to place a partial lockdown on the city of Bat Yam and three Chareidi neighborhoods in Ashdod. A partial lockdown was imposed on the city of Elad and the Kiryat Sanz neighborhood of Tiveria earlier last week. A total of 19 residents and staff members of a senior living facility in Ashdod were diagnosed with the virus.

Health officials are investigating whether someone returning to the New York City area from Florida spread the coronavirus at a high school graduation in suburban Westchester County. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the investigation on Saturday after New York, New Jersey and Connecticut enacted 14-day traveler quarantines to try to check the spread of the virus. A person “who had recently traveled to Florida and attended the ceremony subsequently began showing symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19,” the governor’s office said in a statement.

Welcome to New York! Now don’t come near us for two weeks. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are the latest states to enact 14-day traveler quarantines to try to check the spread of the coronavirus. After being slammed by the outbreak this spring, the states’ governors hope they can preserve their hard-won recovery by making travelers from more than a half-dozen hot-spot states isolate themselves. There were few details Friday on how the newly enacted quarantine will be enforced, but playbooks from other states include everything from making new arrivals fill out forms to having National Guard members knock on doors.

For many states and counties in the U.S., the dark days of the coronavirus pandemic in April unfolded on their television screens, not on their doorsteps. But now, some places that appeared to have avoided the worst are seeing surges of infections, as worries shift from major cities to rural areas. While much of the focus of concerns that the United States is entering a dangerous new phase has been on big Sunbelt states that are reporting thousands of new cases a day — like Texas and Florida — the worrying trend is also happening in places like Kansas, where livestock outnumber people. In early June, Kansas looked to be bringing its outbreak under control, but its daily reported case numbers have more than doubled in recent weeks.

At least 18 people were shot in less than 24 hours across New York City as a two week long spike in gun violence across the city continued. Police said a total of 70 people were shot this week, compared to 26 the same week last year. New York City police officers are trying to push back on a rash of shootings heating up on this summer weekend. Commissioner Dermot Shea says the city’s homicide rate has hit a five-year high and the amount of people shot so far this year has jumped 42% compared to the same period last year. He said there were 100 shootings in the city in the month of May. This is happening as city government debates whether to slash the department’s budget by up to $1 billion to reallocate funding to youth outreach and other education programs. (AP)
