There were thousands of empty seats at the Oklahoma arena where Trump hosted his comeback rally on Saturday, an embarrassing development at an event designed to showcase the Republican president’s strength. Aides were scrambling to explain away the poor optics as they juggled damaging headlines on other fronts. A man charged with conspiring with associates of Rudy Giuliani to make illegal campaign contributions can’t stop prosecutors from using materials he sent to his lawyers as evidence against him, a judge ruled Monday. U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken ruled in the case in Manhattan federal court against David Correia. The case is among those that Geoffrey S. Berman was directing before he was ousted Saturday as U..S. attorney in Manhattan. A defiant Berman, who initially refused to resign Friday when Attorney General William Barr announced he was quitting, stepped down only after Barr agreed that ongoing investigations wouldn’t be disturbed and that Berman’s deputy could temporarily take the top spot.

Israeli scientists have developed a reusable face mask that can kill the coronavirus via heat obtained via an electric current from a phone charger. The mask looks like a standard N97 face mask except for the USB port that can connect it to a standard power source that heats an inner layer of carbon fibers to 158°F (70°C), high enough to kill viruses. It takes about a half-hour for the mask to be sterilized and the mask can then be re-used, an environmentally friendly alternative to disposable face masks. The masks were developed by a research team at the Technion University in Haifa, headed by Prof. Yair Ein-Eli. The team filed for a US patent for the mask in the United States in March and hopes to make them commercially available for about $1 each in the near future.

A few hundred angry new Yorkers showed up to a “noisy” protest in Manhattan late Monday night, sending a “noise message” to Mayor DeBlasio. The residents are furious that DeBlasio has done nothing to stop the fireworks plaguing the city every night until 3-4 in the morning, preventing millions of New Yorkers from being able to sleep. In return, the protesters arrived in their vehicles and honked their horns outside Gracie Mansion, to give the Mayor a taste of what it feels like to not be able to sleep. One of the participants of the protest is NYC Councilmen Chaim Deutsch who gave the following message to YWN: “Tonight we will be sending a message to our Mayor, who has not shown any leadership.

Federal authorities on Monday confirmed they are investigating the discovery of a noose found in the Talladega Superspeedway garage stall of Bubba Wallace, NASCAR’s only Black full-time driver who successfully pushed the stock car series to ban the Confederate flag at its venues earlier this month. U.S. Attorney Jay Town said his office, the FBI and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division were reviewing the situation. “Regardless of whether federal charges can be brought, this type of action has no place in our society,” Town said. The stock car series, founded in the South more than 70 years ago, has tried to distance itself from the flag for years at the risk of alienating a core group of its fan base.

A pastor of a church in Rio de Janeiro led his congregation in praying to “destroy the Jews like vermin” and bring about a second Holocaust, a Jewish Theological Agency (JTA) report said. A video shows Pastor Tupirani da Hora Lores leading his congregation in shouting “Massacre the Jews, G-d, hit them with your sword, for they have left G-d, they have left the nations.” “G-d, what you have done in World War II, you must do again, this is what we ask for in our prayers to you: Justice, justice, justice!” Sinagoga Sem Fronteiras, a network of Jewish communities in Brazil, discovered the video and filed a claim for incitement with the federal police against da Hora Lores.
