The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an unspecified threat that was made indirectly over Facebook regarding summer camps and colonies. Sheriff’s deputies tracked down the owner of the Facebook page on Tuesday and interviewed her regarding the comments. “The owner of the Facebook page was repeating remarks made to her by several strangers that she had encountered in public the previous weekend”, said Undersheriff Eric Chaboty. “We are working to identify these individuals, but at this point the comments appear casual and do not indicate any imminent threat. Nevertheless, the Sheriff’s Office takes all threats seriously and investigates them thoroughly”, he said.

The president of a regional Federal Reserve bank that will oversee a groundbreaking business lending program said Wednesday that he thinks a slower-than-expected recovery from the economic downturn would lead companies to seek critical support from the program. In an interview with The Associated Press, Eric Rosengren, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, said the new Main Street Lending Program will provide bridge loans to formerly healthy companies that are struggling because of the virus and the resulting business shutdowns and economic downturn. The Main Street program, announced in March, is expected to begin operations by June 1. The program will act as “an insurance policy in case things don’t go as well in the second half of the year as we hope,” Rosengren said.

The Yom Tov of Shavuos. The acceptance of the Torah. Not merely a remembrance of what was, but an actual giving of the Torah to those people that study it and hold it dear. Shavuos has always come, no matter where and how the Yidden find themselves. It has come during times of great joy, and it has come during times of persecution and sadness. But it has always come. This year, Klal Yisroel finds themselves in a unique situation for the acceptance of the Torah, with Yeshivos, Batei Midrashim, and Shuls closed across the country it hardly creates the environment that we usually associate with this precious Yom Tov. However, just like Shavuos always comes, so too is the way to prepare ourselves always the same; that is with Limud Hatorah.

Leizer Porush, 22, the son of Rav Tzvi, z’l and Baila Porush, a’h, who passed away days apart after they both fell ill with the coronavirus, got engaged on Tuesday. The shidduch had already been suggested when the parents were still alive but before the two could meet, the coronavirus began to spread and the parents became ill, according to a Kikar H’Shabbos report. “It’s a great simcha,” said one of family members to Kikar H’Shabbat, “because this was the will of the parents, who discussed the shidduch while they were still alive.” Leizer’s mother, Baila Porush, a’h, passed away first – only days after she began feeling ill – at the age of 54.
