The community is reeling after learning of the tragic and untimely passing of Yitzchak Alishayiv Z”L (Yitzchak ben Mazal Z”L), a beloved former custodian and dear friend to many, who was murdered during a trip to Turkey. He was just 45 years old. Yitzchak, formerly the gabbai at Heichal Moshe (Vorhand Shteibel) on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, was well known for his warm heart and quiet passion for wildlife photography. He had traveled to Turkey after Pesach to pursue his love of capturing animals in their natural habitat. Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu made a visit on Tuesday to the Israeli Air Force’s command center at the Kirya in Tel Aviv, where he monitored the military strike on Sana’a International Airport in Yemen in real time.
“I came to the Air Force base and saw how our excellent pilots perfectly carried out the attack on the airport of the Houthi terrorist state,” Netanyahu said. He added, “Among other things, we attacked the terrorist planes there that are used for their supply for their whole killing machine and the deadly missiles. I think we carried out an important operation here.”

During the conversation, Trump also mentioned that he does not intend to visit Israel during his upcoming trip to the Middle East next week. However, he added that a visit to Israel remains a possibility in the future.
According to a recent announcement from the White House, Trump will be traveling to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates beginning May 13.

The U.S. trade deficit soared to a record $140.5 billion in March as consumers and businesses alike tried to get ahead of President Donald Trump’s latest and most sweeping tariffs. The deficit — which measures the gap between the value of goods and services the U.S. sells abroad against what it buys — has roughly doubled over the last year. In March 2024, Commerce Department records show, that gap was just under $68.6 billion. According to federal data released on Tuesday, U.S. exports for goods and services totaled about $278.5 billion in March, while imports climbed to nearly $419 billion. That’s up $0.5 billion and $17.8 billion, respectively, from February trade. Imports are flooding into the U.S. trade wars deepen abroad.

Mahdi al-Mashat, the leader of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, announced that even though the group had reached an understanding with the United States to halt attacks on commercial vessels, its military campaign against Israel would press on.
According to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah news outlet, al-Mashat issued a warning to the people of Israel, urging them to “remain in shelters because their government will not be able to protect them.”

The Pennsylvania senator was responding to allegations made by his former chief of staff, Adam Jentleson, who reportedly expressed concern about Fetterman’s condition following the serious stroke he suffered in May 2022. According to New York Magazine, Jentleson wrote in a detailed email, “I think John is on a bad trajectory, and I’m really worried about him.”

Travelers who aren’t REAL ID compliant by the upcoming deadline this week will still be able to fly but should be prepared for extra scrutiny, the head of Homeland Security said Tuesday. Kristi Noem told a Congressional panel that 81% of travelers already have IDs that comply with the REAL ID requirements. She said security checkpoints will also be accepting passports and tribal identification when the deadline hits Wednesday. Those who still lack an identification that complies with the REAL ID law “may be diverted to a different line, have an extra step,” Noem said. “But people will be allowed to fly,” she said.

In a dangerous escalation between two nuclear-armed rivals, India launched a series of missile strikes into Pakistani-controlled territory early Wednesday, hitting at least three locations and reportedly killing a child and wounding two civilians, Pakistani officials said. The dramatic pre-dawn attacks shattered the tense calm that had prevailed since last month’s deadly assault on Indian tourists in Kashmir, which New Delhi blames on Pakistan-backed militants. Islamabad has denied any involvement — but now the conflict has turned kinetic.

Turkey’s intelligence service thwarted a remote attack using pagers last year in Lebanon, days after similar attacks by Israel killed dozens and wounded thousands, including members of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, a Turkish daily and officials said Tuesday. Sec. Brooke Rollins: “The reason egg prices increased 237% under Joe Biden was the way that they handled the avian bird flu… A month ago, I released the five-point plan. Since we released that plan, the cost of eggs has come down 56% and continues to go down.”

A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration must begin admitting approximately 12,000 refugees into the United States, despite efforts by the administration to halt the country’s refugee admissions program. The decision partially enforces an earlier court order that had been scaled back by a higher court.
The ruling, issued by U.S. District Judge Jamal Whitehead, came after legal arguments from both the Department of Justice and organizations that assist with refugee resettlement. The debate centered on how to interpret a more limited ruling recently issued by a federal appeals court that revised an earlier order from Whitehead.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he’s ordering a halt to nearly two months of U.S. airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthis, saying the Iran-backed rebels have indicated that “they don’t want to fight anymore” and have pledged to stop attacking ships along a vital global trade route. “We’re going to stop the bombing of the Houthis, effective immediately,” Trump said at the start of his Oval Office meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Trump said the Houthis had indicated to U.S. officials that “they don’t want to fight anymore. They just don’t want to fight.

Former prime minister Naftali Bennett has submitted the required documents for the registration of a new political party, according to an official document from Israel’s Corporation Authority published on Tuesday. The party, named “Bennett 2026,” names one of its two goals as “the recruitment of all Israeli citizens to the security, civil, and economic burden.” The party’s other goal is “to restore security to Israel and restore the public’s trust in Israel’s ability to defend its borders and the interior of the country through the implementation of an active security concept.” In other words, since ensuring Israel’s security is a goal shared by all political parties, the raison d’être of Bennett’s new party is for all Bnei Yeshivos to enlist in the IDF.
