Many are questioning why Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is gearing to launch his presidential campaign, has not spoken up publicly after groups of neo-Nazis from the so-called “Goyim Defense League” distributed propaganda, protested, and harassed Jews across Florida this past weekend. In a viral video too vile for publication on YWN due to the sickening hate and obscenities therein, Goyim Defense League founder John Minadeo, who moved his hate group to Florida in December, is seen yelling “Heil Hitler, Jew!” at a passing man in front of a Chabad House. Minadeo was arrested several months ago after raising an anti-Semitic banner at the Auschwitz death camp in Poland. “Sir, do you think you should be put in an oven?” he said to another.

Maimonides Fail: social-media uproar after Jewish community leader shares his grandfather ignored at Maimonides ER for 36 hours It has just been three days since nearly 2,000 Boro Park residents rallied in solidarity with Save Maimonides and thousands more have signed petitions demanding accountability and oversight at the failing Maimonides hospital. Despite this, Maimonides seems to be continuing with business as usual: long waits and extreme negligence even when it comes to the most vulnerable patients – even in the Emergency Room.

German airline Lufthansa apologized Tuesday after all visibly Jewish passengers were prevented from boarding a flight due to mask violations by some. In a statement, Lufthansa said it “regrets the circumstances surrounding the decision to exclude passengers” from the flight. “On May 4, a large number of booked passengers were denied boarding on their onward flight with LH 1334 from Frankfurt to Budapest. Lufthansa regrets the circumstances surrounding the decision to exclude the affected passengers from the flight, for which Lufthansa sincerely apologizes,” the airline said. “While Lufthansa is still reviewing the facts and circumstances of that day, we regret that the large group was denied boarding rather than limiting it to the non-compliant guests.

A federal judge in Florida has voided the national mask mandate covering airplanes and other public transportation as exceeding the authority of U.S. health officials in the coronavirus pandemic. The decision Monday by U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle in Tampa, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, also said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention improperly failed to justify its decision and did not follow proper rulemaking. In her 59-page ruling, Mizelle said the only remedy was to vacate the rule entirely across the country because it would be impossible to end it for the limited group of people who objected in the lawsuit.

As part of New Jersey’s education standards, teachers will be required to teach students in 2nd grade about gender identities when the new school year begins this fall. The standards were first put in place in 2020 but are only going into effect this September. The education standards call for second graders to understand the “core ideas” that all “individuals should feel welcome and included regardless of their gender [and] gender expression.” The “performance expectations” include talking about “the range of ways people express their gender and how gender role stereotypes may limit behavior.” Sample lessons that have been distributed in New Jersey include teaching a first grader that he has “boy parts” but “feel like” a girl.

This money will be given out in Flatbush & Lakewood on Purim morning to dozens of poor families. Believe it or not, there are families that do not have money to pay for their own Purim Seudas. These people are your neighbors and you don’t even know! Many of these families struggle with their daily bills, and can’t make ends meet. They have all had their share of electric and gas shut-offs, owing money to their grocery, tuition’s, medical bills and other pressing issues. There is no greater Mitzvah then making poor people happy on Purim. While many of us continuously donate to causes in Eretz Yisroel, many times the poor are suffering in our own backyards. The Halacha is clear: “Aniyei Ircha come first”.

An appeals judge temporarily restored New York’s mask mandate Tuesday, a day after a judge in a lower court ruled that Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration lacked the constitutional authority to order people to wear face coverings. Judge Robert Miller in New York City granted the state’s request for a stay of a Long Island judge’s ruling while the governor’s administration pursues an appeal. Arguing before Miller on Tuesday, Judith Vale, an attorney for the state, said judge Thomas Rademaker’s earlier ruling would “radically disrupt the status quo” and endanger the health of students and staff at schools.

An antisemitic employee at a convenience store who refused service to a Jewish customer for not having a mask who refused service to a Jewish customer for not having a mask, but gave no problem to an unmasked non-Jewish customer, has been fired from her job. In an email responding to the incident, the store owner said he was sorry for what happened, and that the employee has been terminated. “Let me assure you that our policy does not direct employees to refuse service to any customer based upon adherence to the mask requirement imposed by the State of New York. Neither the refusal of service nor the ensuing confrontational actions of the staff member are acceptable in our business, are not in line with out policies and are not tolerated,” the email reads.
