HaGaon HaRav Meir Tzvi Bergman, who received the bitter news of his son’s petirah after traveling to the US for the first time in four years, will speak at the Adirei HaTorah event during the week of shiva. HaRav Bergman’s speech was initially canceled due to dinei aveilus. However, he remained in the US to sit shiva since his doctors felt it would be too taxing for the elderly Rosh Yeshivah to make another long plane trip so soon after landing. Meanwhile, the Roshei Yeshivos of Lakewood began discussing the issue of whether HaRav Bergman’s appearance at the event would fall under the halachic category of “רבים צריכים לו” – believing that the success of the event may be impinged by the Rosh Yeshivah’s absence.

Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi flew to Washington on Wednesday for talks with Biden administration officials about both the possibility of a renewed nuclear deal with Iran and a Saudi-Israel deal. President Trump, 76, was campaigning in Iowa when he heard about Biden’s stumble at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation Thursday. “He actually fell down? Well I hope he wasn’t hurt,” Trump said after an audience member told him about what had happened to Biden. “The whole thing is crazy. You gotta be careful about that … ’cause you don’t want that, even if you have to tiptoe down a ramp.” The audience laughed as Trump recounted slowly inching his way down what he said had been a slippery ramp at the U.S. Military Academy graduation. “If he fell, it’s too bad,” the former president said. “We gotta just get this thing back on track. That’s a bad place to fall when you’re making, I think it was the Air Force Academy, right? That’s not inspiring.” (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)

Republican Congressman Mike Lawler from New York is introducing legislation aimed at preventing universities that allow “antisemitic events on campus” from participating in student loan and grant programs. The proposed legislation, known as the “Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act,” is a response to a recent anti-Semitic commencement speech delivered at CUNY Law School. During the speech, student Fatima Mousa Mohammed made accusations of “indiscriminate” murder by the U.S. military and Israel. She also called for students to join a “revolution” against Zionism, capitalism, and racism. Mohammed claimed that Israel continues to use violence against Palestinians, including the elderly and young, even targeting funerals and graveyards.

President Joe Biden on Thursday took a tumble while on stage at an Air Force graduation ceremony.
