Matzav.com is saddened to report the passing of Rabbi Moshe Chanoch Mordechai Hakohein Novoseller z”l at the age of 94.
Rabbi Novoseller was born on September 29, 1930, to his father, Rabbi Dovid Shlomo Novoseller, the rov of Felsztyn and later a rov in Philadelphia, and his mother, Rivke Miryam Novoseller (née Twersky). Reb Dovid Shlomo was a descendant of gedolei Torah, including Rav Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev, the Maharsha, the Noda B’Yehudah, and the Meor Einayim of Chernobyl, Rav Menachem Nachum Twersky.

On Wednesday, Rav Dovid Yosef was officially designated as Rishon Letzion, Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, during a ceremony that was attended by the Shas party’s Council of Torah Sages and Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
The title of Rishon Letzion is traditionally assigned to Sephardic Chief Rabbis and holds historical significance dating back to the 17th century.
During the ceremony, Rav Yosef was adorned with the customary rabbinical attire by Rav Avraham Salim, Rav Shmuel Betzalel, and Rav Reuven Elbaz, who are members of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of Shas.
The traditional turban was placed on the Chief Rabbi’s head by Rav Shlomo Ben-Shimon, as well as Rav Dovid’s brothers, Rav Avrohom and Rav Moshe Yosef.

Three Israeli men were shot and lightly wounded on their way to daven at the Kever Yosef compound overnight Tuesday, according to Hebrew media reports.
The three men, members of the Breslover community, had entered Shechem in Shomron after driving through an Israeli military checkpoint and fled after being fired on, later seeking medical attention at Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital, where police subsequently detained them.

Hi!
My name is Ahuva.
I am 5 and half years old. We have four kids in our family. I am the oldest. After me comes my brother Aryeh Leib. Our precious younger sister, Penina Leah a”h, was niftar two years ago. We miss her so much. Our cute baby is Nechama.
My parents were surprised when they saw me when I was born. I was missing an ear and my cute face was deformed. They later found out that I also had two holes in my little heart. This is all part of the condition I have called microtia.

After a major controversy that was first covered in the English chareidi media by Matzav.com surrounding the song “Od Yoter Tov,” Rav Dov Kook, the tzaddik of Tiveriah, expressed his opinion about the song during a shiur on Emunah and Bitachon.
Rav Yekutiel Ohev Tzion shared the words of Rav Avraham Deutsch, rov in Maale Adumim, who said that the song is heresy, and presented the lyrics of the song to Rav Kook.
Aside from stating that there is “no concern with the words,” since the main goal is “chizuk” and there is no “intent for study,” Rav Kook further elaborated extensively, explaining that these words are indeed correct, and he explained the matter at length.

The following is an update received by Matzav.com from the Krohn family regarding the condition of Rabbi Paysach Krohn:
We are humbled and grateful by the outpouring of tefillos from around the world. It is such a chizuk for our whole family.
We would like to thank the members of Hatzalah of Waterbury who were present at the Agudah Convention. With their quick response, they were able to deal immediately with the situation so that Rabbi Krohn was able to receive the care needed. All of your tefillos have stormed the Shaarei Shamayim. [Matzav]
He is now stable and fully aware of what transpired. Rabbi Krohn is out of the ICU and the situation is still serious, but stable.

This morning, Rav Meir Mazuz, the head of Yeshiva Kisei Rachamim, spoke about the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria.
“The Assad regime has fallen. Assad is of Syria. Do you know what ‘Assad’ means in Arabic? It means lion. Even the lion has fallen into the pit. He doesn’t like us so much, he hates us. And the rebels, who knows if they hate or love? Who knows?” the rabbi remarked.
The rosh yeshiva went on to add, “Therefore, we must pray: anyone who does evil to Israel, whether from here or there, should fall! And if one does less evil than the other, the one who does less evil should remain. We must pray for this.”

MK Moshe Gafni, the head of the Degel Hatorah faction within the United Torah Judaism (UTJ) party, suggested that despite the ongoing threats, his party is unlikely to exit the coalition, as doing so would essentially reward Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara for her attempts to undermine the haredi community.
During a gathering at the home of Maran Rav Dov Landau, Gafni expressed, “Their entire intention is simply that we leave the coalition, communication with them, their courts, and they think that the more they harm Torah learners, we’ll leave the coalition and go to them – that’s their entire goal.”
