Thousands of children from across Eretz Yisroel gathered in the main Gerrer beis medrash in Yerushalayim in the waning hours of Chanukah – after Mincha of Zos Chanukah— to depart from the yom tov of light with the fire of Torah. In the coming hours, thousands of children would be tested on hundreds of dapim of Gemara that they had mastered by heart after numerous reviews. The sight would leave the thousands in attendance deeply impressed. The event was called “Haragil b’Ner, and it took place within the framework of the program ‘v’Chol Banayich,” under the umbrella of Ichud Mosdos Gur, responsible for promoting mastery in Torah among the children of the chassidus. The new beis medrash has had the chance to witness many events during the short time since it was built.

A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured and 39 others lightly hurt when a child transport bus collided with a truck on Route 1 between Yerushalayim and Tel Aviv. The majority of those injured were children riding in the bus, who were being transported – along with a number of parents – on a school trip. The children, from an Even Yehuda school in Yerushalayim, were on their way to the hills surrounding Yerushalayim, according to reports. An initial investigation found that the bus slammed into the back of the truck, though it is unclear what caused the accident. The seriously injured girl was sitting towards the front of the bus; investigators are unsure at this time whether she was wearing a seat belt.

A highly anticipated matchup between the Bills and Bengals was temporarily suspended Monday night after Buffalo defensive back Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field. Hamlin took a big hit in the chest area on a tackle in the first quarter of Buffalo’s game on Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin got hit by Bengals receiver Tee Higgins as Higgins ran upfield after a catch. Hamlin got up, then suddenly collapsed. Reporters at the stadium said Hamlin was given CPR on the field. More than 15 minutes passed from the time Hamlin collapsed to when he was taken off the field.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s bid for the Speakership is in peril with five GOP lawmakers holding out against his candidacy. With the GOP having just a four seat advantage in the House, five Republicans voting against McCarthy would be enough to sink his bid. And one, Rep. Andy Biggs, is saying that he will never vote for McCarthy as Speaker, no matter what. Asked on a Fox News show whether he could see himself voting for McCarthy to become Speaker under certain circumstances, Biggs said he does not. “I don’t think so,” Biggs said. “Here’s why. He’s got a body of work. You go back to ’17 and ’18, look at why we had Democrats voting for the Republican budgets.
