Republicans are feeling pretty swell and Democrats quite gloomy as President Joe Biden’s performance as chief executive continues to disappoint. According to new ABC News/Washington Post poll, Republicans now hold their largest lead in midterm voter preference for next year’s midterm elections dating back 40 years – 51% to 41%. While a year is a long time in politics, Democrats have a steep uphill climb to get back in American voters’ favor. They are dealing with a president with record low approval numbers, soaring economic discontent, and a general sense that Democrats are out-of-touch with what Americans really want. Even some things that Biden could claim credit for isn’t helping him.

In a stunning interview, the Black Lives Matter leader who threatened to unleash violence and “bloodshed” in New York City if Eric Adams doesn’t bow to his demands, refused to condemn riots and building burnings that have taken place after police-involved incidents. A heated exchange between Hawk Newsome and Fox News anchor Dan Bongino took place live on-air after Bongino asked the BLM activist if he would condemn violent riots. “No. What I’ll say is, I understand when a police officer unjustifiably kills someone, why people lash out. I understand that completely,” Newsome said. “I’m not going to condemn, nor am I going to condone it.” “Do you condone violence, or you condemn violence? You’re all over the place. Just condemn violence and burning of buildings down.

In his latest lurch to the extreme, former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn called for only one religion to be in America during a speech at the far-right “ReAwaken America” tour stop in San Antonio. “If we are going to have one nation under God – which we must – we have to have one religion,” Flynn said. “One nation under God, and one religion under God.” It goes without saying that Flynn’s vision is not only dangerous to other religions practicing in the United States, including yiddishkeit, but is also completely contrary to the Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of religion. Perhaps more disturbing was Jewish Senate candidate Josh Mandel’s statement on Twitter supporting Flynn following his twisted comment.

YWN had made an editorial decision to ignore any further articles about the tragic story of a Lebanese Muslim man who deceived a frum woman from Flatbush into marrying him. This changed when “Eliya” Hawila went public on Motzei Shabbos in an interview with Zev Brenner on Talkline and stated he was considering filing harassment charges against YWN for being “unethical.” Although Haliwa seemed to have genuinely developed an interest in Judaism, he engaged in extremely unethical behavior when instead of making the effort to convert, he began lying about his background due to the fear of being rejected by his Jewish friends.

A sickening display of anti-Semitism was showcased at a public hearing in the town of Haverstraw, NY (near Monsey) last night, when a bigot got up and made incredibly shocking and hateful comments about the Jews of the town. The incident came during at a town hearing during which a variance was being considered for a property upon which Jews are planning to build a shul. During the public comments section, a man who self-identified as Nick Collela of 45 River Glen Drive, got up to give his two cents about the Jews. Collela went on a tirade against the proposed building of the shul, looking for every possible complaint he could use – from garbage cans in the street to Hatzolah showing up to emergencies – to somehow get the shul’s request for approval denied.

A SpaceX rocket carried four astronauts into orbit Wednesday night, including the 600th person to reach space in 60 years. The repeatedly delayed flight occurred just two days after SpaceX brought four other astronauts home from the International Space Station. They should have been up there to welcome the newcomers, but NASA and SpaceX decided to switch the order based on Monday’s ideal recovery weather in the Gulf of Mexico. “It was a great ride, better than we imagined,” mission commander Raja Chari said shortly after the spacecraft reached orbit. The launch was just as riveting for spectators at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, as well as along the East Coast, as the Falcon rocket thundered through clouds on its way to space, turning night into day.

The coalition reeled on Wednesday after suffering two defeats in the Knesset when two bills brought by the opposition were approved, one of them after a Ra’am MK broke with the coalition to vote with the opposition. Ra’am MK Mazen Ghanaim voted for the first bill, proposed by the members of the Arab Joint List, to establish a hospital in the Arab town of Sakhnin. Ghanaim lives in Sakhnin and served as its mayor from 2008 -2018. His vote caused an uproar in the Knesset, as his fellow coalition members booed him. The second bill, proposed by UTJ MK Yaakov Asher, expands the definition of racism to include incitement against Chareidim, rendering it a criminal offense.
